Martina Trevisan reached her first Grand Slam semifinal at Roland Garros, and extended her winning streak to 10 matches, with a three-set defeat of Leylah ...

Fernandez had made it to a third set largely thanks to her competitive instincts, and they came to the fore again when the US Open finalist was almost down and out. Serving for the match, Trevisan failed to make a first serve, and Fernandez used her own forehand to punish her. But Trevisan shook off the disappointment and came out firing in the decider. Fernandez went up 3-1, only for Trevisan to find her range with her passing shots to win four of the next five games. She becomes the third Italian woman to reach the Roland Garros semifinals in the Open Era, following 2010 champion Francesca Schiavone and 2012 finalist Sara Errani. In any given forehand-to-forehand exchange, it was Trevisan's versatility and weight of shot that invariably got the upper hand.

Martina Trevisan reached her first French Open semi-final with a 6-2 6-7(3) 6-3 win over Canadian teenager Leylah Fernandez.

The world number 59 had the chance to seal the match in straight sets but failed to serve out at 5-4 as Fernandez dug deep to stay in the contest. Trevisan, surprisingly making only her third main draw appearance in Paris, began the match in a confident fashion and broke serve in the opening game. Unseeded Italian Martina Trevisan is through to her first French Open semifinal with another impressive win over Leylah Fernandez.

Now she has gone further and will be confident against either Coco Gauff or Sloane Stephens in the semi-final. The 19-year-old Canadian earned a break at the start of the second set but Trevisan re-established control and broke twice to hold a 5-4 lead with her serve to come. Trevisan had all the answers as she dominated most of the match against a below-par Fernandez who struggled to repeat the form that took her to last year’s U.S. Open final.
