But rather than saying that we are doing well, I want to say that we are doing it skillfully. I have a lot I want to do..." But this time, I got to see all of the members for the first time in a while, and we had a really great time working on the album. My house and my cats are all in Korea. When I go overseas, I want to eat sundae soup. But then, when I moved to Korea, I lived a life where I had to be more careful of my actions. I stayed busy every day, but I was stuck in this same cycle, and I just asked myself, 'Am I happy?'. In the end, I wanted to be a singer and an artist. It wasn't easy, but I felt that I owed it to the team. I wanted to be rid of all of the complex thoughts and struggles and just become an artist who was free. I've always gone back and forth between singing and acting, but it was the first time that I was truly all alone. "Before I moved to Korea, I used to have spurts of anger. For us, it is the desire to remain a team. And I'm happy to say, that I think each member really spent that time meaningfully.

“I hope rather than be proud of us, they’re proud of themselves that they supported a group like GOT7, and proud of that fact in front of other people.” It’s been one hell of a journey but its ending - at least for this chapter - is simple, heartfelt and, most importantly, one GOT7 created with their own hands. As the only member to have gravitated towards acting, spending much of 2021 filming two TV dramas (The Devil’s Judge and Yumi’s Cells), Jinyoung found himself “thirsting” for a return to singing. “GOT7 isn’t special,” says Jinyoung. “It’s hard for us to say we’re the start of something because we received inspiration from our seniors.” Jay B adds: “There was Shinhwa and g.o.d, we’re just following what they’ve done.” When performing as soloists, they do.” It leaves GOT7, he thinks, able to “come together as a group that’s the focus for our fans.” Earlier this year, Youngjae gave an interview, saying “the members get along even better now”. It was never a case of them not getting along, but that the nest had grown too tight for all the wings trying to be spread. They run, giggling, trying to find their old spots in the formations on “Not By The Moon” (2020). When the song finishes, they wildly applaud their disarray. They used to have a rule - whoever was late had to pay a fine to the choreographer. “Listening to the track, I thought if GOT7 dances to it, there will probably be a really fun outcome,” he teases. “We’ve been planning to do this [album] ever since we left JYP Entertainment. It was supposed to be the end of last year, but it’s kinda difficult to get all seven members’ schedules aligned,” says Mark, the group’s eldest. Debuting in January 2014 with the hip-hop-meets-pop of “ Girls, Girls, Girls”, they moved effortlessly across styles, from the cute and wildly popular “ Just Right” (currently at 401 million YouTube views), to the summery hijinks of “ A” and angsty harmonies of “ If You Do”. On 2016’s Flight Log: Departure, they settled into a R&B/pop vibe, developing the experimental electronic flourishes and hooks that would become their signature. In a small space, their voices blur and separate in waves, the volume rising to a level that feels physical and befuddling. It’s easy to identify their laughs: Youngjae - a sonic boom; Yugyeom - little firecrackers; Jinyoung and Jay B: bassy and rich; Mark: the giggle; Jackson and BamBam - an unbridled cackle.
