Ankiti Bose Hits Back After Zilingo Terminates Her As CEO (Inc42 Media)

Zilingo cofounder Ankiti Bose said she would be pursuing legal action against the board after being terminated from her position.

Besides this, Zilingo has appointed Deloitte to look into the allegations of sexual and workplace harassment that were raised by Bose after her suspension. The fashion startup was founded in 2015 by Bose and Dhruv Kapoor, who is the product and technology head. I have in good faith proceeded to be interviewed by Kroll on the very day I was told of my suspension. At the point of my purported termination, I have yet to be presented with the findings of both Kroll AND Deloitte and my reports being incomplete, the board has wrongfully terminated me today for “insubordination” without giving me a chance to address fully the concerns that have been raised. The two firms provided a loan of $40 Mn to Zilingo when Bose was the CEO in July 2021. I have been suspended for the last 51 days on the basis of an anonymous whistle-blower complaint which I have been told came in connivance.

Zilingo In Limbo: CFO Quits In Two Months, Salaries Unpaid After ... (Inc42 Media)

Zilingo CFO Ramesh Bafna quit within two months of joining the company, and sources say Zilingo has not paid salaries after March 2022.

This indicated that the company was not earning enough revenue to cover the interest on loans it had taken in its lifetime till 2019. Other founders told Inc42 that employee salaries are typically the first item budgeted in the annual expenditure of a startup. As seen in Zilingo’s latest audited financial performance (filed in November 2020), the company incurred a loss of $236.5 Mn in the financial year ended March 2019. As per earlier reports, Bafna was brought on to steady the ship after the suspension of cofounder and CEO Ankiti Bose in March this year. The exit of Bafna is just another setback for the B2B fashion startup that was very close to raising another funding round when all hell broke loose, sources had told Inc42 earlier. Besides this, Zilingo is said to have appointed a financial adviser in light of the loans worth $40 Mn recalled by the company’s debtors.

The question I want to ask them is who the company is and who am I fighting with right now. I should have been shown the report and given a chance to respond first. It is the core of my existence and my whole life. Because my reputation, my life, is on the line. In any fair investigation, you have to allow the person to respond to the allegations and give them an answer. I have not seen the complaint (against me). I have seen allegations to which I have said I need time to respond. They asked me for a meeting and I couldn’t show up.They are not firing me because of the proof of the allegations but the fact that I refused to come and discuss the allegations and that implies insubordination. We need to think about Zilingo and its employees and its customers and saving the company. Right now my focus is on the gross injustice that has happened to me. If you are dismissing me on the basis of the Kroll report, please share the report with me. I have told them I would like to answer the allegations but I haven't got that chance yet. She also told ET in an hour-long chat that the questions that have not yet been answered are to do with her harassment claims.
