Taking the same into account the break-even price for retail investors and employees of LIC stood at Rs 904 per share, 5% lower than the issue price. Meanwhile, policyholders of LIC were given a Rs 60 per share discount, leading to a break-even price of Rs 889 per share. However, the prospects for the insurance industry in India are good due to the under penetration of insurance and a long runway of growth; hence LIC being the largest player will be the beneficiary in the long term. Another point to note has that, LIC didn’t pay any dividends in the last financial year, so there are high chances that the company might declare a good dividend this year, thus making it a good dividend play. New investors can take advantage of the dips to accumulate this share for the long term. New investors can take advantage of the dips to accumulate this share for the long term. We believe that personal savings and awareness regarding insurance will increase enabling the sector to outperform in the long run and will indirectly benefit LIC as it is the market leader in this sector. We believe India’s highly underpenetrated life insurance space is still at a nascent stage and is attractively positioned to capture the huge growth opportunity.

LIC | Will shares catch up with its true valuation? (Moneycontrol.com)

LIC share price is likely to drift lower to catch up with its fundamental value. How long does it take will depend upon whether free market operates or some ...

A profit of Rs 3,500 crore amounts to an EPS of Rs 5.54 per share. At a PE ratio of 90, LIC’s share price would have had to be only about Rs 400 per share. LIC share price is likely to drift lower to catch up with its fundamental value. The Price-to-Earning (PE) ratio, the most trusted conventional measurement of value, for LIC earning Rs 4.47 per share, works out to 212.3 per share for price of Rs 949. In 2021-22, it earned Rs 1,672 crore of profits in first nine months. Even if 100 percent profits are distributed to shareholders, they will get an investment yield of only about 58 paise per share — which is hugely disappointing for any investor. The embedded value, a complex method based on various assumptions about future, equals the present value of future profits together with market value of net assets. At this price, all investors — including policy holders, employees, and retail investors who got shares at a discount of Rs 40-60 per share — lost money. It reached a high of almost Rs 919 per share. LIC’s DHRP disclosed its EPS averaged Rs 4.47 in three preceding years. LIC’s paid up equity capital is Rs 6,325 crore. There was not much enthusiasm for LIC’s offering.
