futsalevent sees the participation of nearly 90 players from five countries – host Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia and Myanmar. Its matches are played in a round-robin format. The matches closed with another score for Thailand. The squad ended the first round by breaking Malaysia’s net for another four times.

HANOI: The 31st SEA Games officially started in Vietnam with a glitzy affair that showcased the cultural fabric and unity of the socialist republic.

It was apt that Dhabitah carried the Jalur Gemilang as she won the nation’s first gold in the games on May 8. Clad in the traditional attire of a Malay princess which mirrored the colour of the Malaysian flag, the Olympian held the Jalur Gemilang with pride alongside the Malaysian contingent as they walked past the dignitaries led by Vietnam’s president Nguyen Xuan Phuc. In the opening ceremony on Thursday (May 12), the host nation also showed the solidarity of all the countries in Southeast Asia, which has grown stronger over the years.

The other Malaysian athletes and officials wore matching corporate T-shirts with a roaring tiger’s head pattern, symbolising the spirit of perseverance and the fearlessness of the King of the Jungle in hunting its prey. The CDM and Nur Dhabitah were proudly clad in traditional Malay costumes, namely as “Pendekar Melayu” (Malay Warrior) and “Puteri” (Malay Princess), which had a colour combination of blue, red, yellow and white that is symbolic of the Jalur Gemilang, as well as complete with the tanjak (headgear) and sanggul lintang. The May 12-23 biennial sporting extravaganza, which was divided into three parts, namely “Friendly Vietnam”, “Strong South-east Asia” and “Shining South-east Asia”, began with a flag salute and singing of the Vietnamese national anthem.
