Google I/O 2022: Here's everything Google during the opening ... (ZDNet)

From new developer tools to new Pixel hardware, Google is expected to announce a lot of products and services during the opening keynote.

Android 13 has been in beta for a couple of months now, but Google spent some time going through some of the features users can expect to see when Android 13 launches later this year. Osterloh also took some time to debut a Pixel Tablet that will debut in 2023. Spatial Audio will come through a software update to the Pixel Buds Pro later this year. Announcements around Pixel hardware kicked off with the Pixel phone, highlighting what the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro brought to the Android-makers lineup. Android 13 is currently in beta for Pixel devices, but more hardware partners will soon give users access to the beta. In order to make Google Assistant more accessible, you can use a new feature that's rolling out starting today called Look and Talk. You simply need to look at the Nest Hub Max and start talking. You'll see that Google Assistant is waiting for you to ask a question after looking at the screen. Android will let you share your ID using NFC or a QR Code. The Wallet update will roll out in the coming weeks. For example, Google has started to use the scale in Google Photos and is adding the ability to sort Search results by skin tone. Google has been able to auto-generate chapters for YouTube videos, but through improvements to the service, Google is planning to automatically add chapter markers to 80 million videos by the end of the year. During the event, we expect to hear from Google about new tools for developers, improvements included in Android 13, and maybe some new hardware. This is especially helpful for those who often receive meeting notes or minutes and don't want to wade through all of the fluff.

Google I/O Roundup: Immersive maps, multisearch, Matter support ... (9to5Mac)

Table of contents · Immersive maps · Multisearch · Enhanced video calling · Personalized ads · Google Wallet · Matter support · Pixel 6a and Pixel 7 · Google Pixel ...

The phone, which will cost $449, will be available in July. Google says Pixel 6a will get three years of Android updates and five years of security patches. In addition to software and service news, Google also announced Pixel 6a – a new midrange version of its smartphone. In addition, Google has been working with developers such as TikTok and Facebook to improve their apps for Android tablets. Google also revealed that it’s working on its own Pixel Tablet, coming in 2023. There, users will have options to disable Personalized Ads and reduce the number of ads based on the user’s data, or even choose which categories of ads the user wants to see or not see. One particular and very interesting feature announced for Google Pay is support for virtual cards when shopping online. For instance, Immersive View simulates the current weather and traffic, and you can even change the view as you like. More than that, the intensity and position of the artificial light can be freely changed in the video. Google Maps is certainly the most popular map service worldwide, and it’s now getting even better with more immersive maps. Google on Wednesday held the opening event of Google I/O, the company’s annual conference for developers. According to Google, My Ad Center will be available later this year for all web users. Google will find stores or even restaurants that have that item near you.

Google's biggest announcements at I/O 2022 (The Verge)

Google announced its new mid-tier phone, the Pixel 6A, which will cost $449 when it's available for preorder on July 21st. The company seems to be flipping its ...

Google announced that its auto-generated translations are coming to YouTube on mobile, that you’ll be able to just look at your Nest Hub Max and start talking to the assistant, and that your phone will be able to look at a shelf full of chocolate bars and pick one out for you based on what you’re looking for. Google went over its plans for Android 13, and the next version of its mobile OS seems to be going further with the ideas introduced in Android 12. Google is bringing back its Wallet app as a place to hold not just your payment cards, but your passes, rewards program memberships, vaccination records, and more. It also said the company is focused on implementing additional security features for its products by default, in addition to the concept of “protected computing” to do more processing on-device rather than sending data elsewhere. There are pretty much no details on whether this will be a product people can buy, but it’s certainly interesting to see more hints of Google’s plan for joining companies like Snap and Meta in the race to put AR on your face. Yes, Google teased the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro with a few renders, showing that the phones will have some slightly different camera cutouts and back panel. The only real hardware detail we have about Google’s upcoming device is that it’ll have a Tensor chip in it. Not just anyone will be able to try out LaMDA 2, but eventually, Google hopes to bring the tech to search and its other products (though it wants to do so very slowly). The next generation of Pixel phones is on the horizon. Like Google’s current Pixels, the 7 and 7 Pro will have two and three cameras, respectively. The company seems to be flipping its usual script for this phone — previous A models have featured a camera comparable to the one found on Google’s flagship Pixels but had weaker processors. Google announced its new mid-tier phone, the Pixel 6A, which will cost $449 when it’s available for preorder on July 21st.

All the Software Google Announced at I/O 2022: Android 13, Search ... (WIRED)

From Android to web search, here are all the enhancements coming to your phone, tablet, and desktop this year.

To do that, the Nest Hub Max uses its built-in camera to monitor how close you are to the device, which way your head is turned, and which way your gaze is directed. An upcoming feature in Google Maps is something Google calls Immersive View. It’s a sort of tricked out Street View that lets you swipe to move around in a CGI-rendered 3D space. Last month, Google rolled out a feature called Multisearch. It lets you combine elements in a single search query, like using a photo and text at the same time. Called Near Me, the feature lets you factor in your location while Multisearching, helping to sniff out local restaurants or shops based on photos and text. Google also laid out a variety of new additions to its software platforms aimed at protecting against cyberattacks. Multilingual users will be able to set specific apps to use specific languages, so you can search in English and tweet in German. Support for quick-pairing with devices using the Matter smart home standard will be built in, and it will be easier to cast videos or photos to more televisions, displays, and other screens in your home with additional support for more manufacturers’ products.
