Match Pack: Watford v Everton (Watford FC)

Ahead of Watford's Premier League meeting with Everton on Wednesday evening (May 11, 7.45pm KO), here's everything you need to know...

For Everton, Yerry Mina (calf), Donny van de Beek (groin) and Ben Godfrey (quadriceps) are definitely out, as are Nathan Patterson (ankle) and Andros Townsend (ACL) who will be absent for the remainder of the season. João Pedro faced a late fitness test after missing Saturday’s Crystal Palace match with a minor groin problem. Imrân Louza (knee) had surgery earlier in the week and will be out for the rest of this season.

Boss Names Everton XI For Watford (Everton Football)

Michael Keane is restored to Everton's starting XI, as manager Frank Lampard makes one enforced change for Wednesday's Premier League meeting with Watford.

Lampard sticks with the front three of Richarlison, playing at the home of the club he left for Everton in summer 2018, Anthony Gordon and Demarai Gray. He is partnered by Abdoulaye Doucoure in the centre of midfield. Defender Keane replaced the stricken Yerry Mina during the opening half of the win over Leciester City on Sunday. And he comes into the team at Vicarage Road as part of a likely back three, also featuring Mason Holgate and captain Seamus Coleman.

Watford 0-0 Everton: Instant reaction - Toffees held to dull draw (Royal Blue Mersey)

The game just got bogged down though into a scrappy mess. Everton did wake up in the second half. The travelling Toffees once again arrived in great number and in great voice, following on from Sunday’s game at the King Power. But in a game where they are expected to take the initiative, it didn’t really work. With Watford already relegated a number of home fans decided to give this a miss, meaning there were plenty of empty seats as the game began at Vicarage Road - in the home section at least. I would have taken four points from these two away games, but after the win at Leicester it feels like they have blown a chance to all but secure safety.

Everton edge a point closer to safety after Watford end losing home ... (The Guardian)

In a game low on chances, Ben Foster's late save from Vitalii Mykolenko ensured Watford drew 0-0 with Everton.

Lampard then had reason to look relieved when only a last-ditch tackle from Séamus Coleman prevented a Watford breakaway. Denied the services of Yerry Mina, Lampard recalled Michael Keane at the heart of his five-man defence and he almost gifted Watford an early lead, miscuing a clearance after Jordan Pickford had given possession away. But despite the confidence-boosting wins over Chelsea and Leicester Everton never really looked like finding a way past Ben Foster even when Lampard threw on Dominic Calvert-Lewin for the last 15 minutes and it was Watford’s fans who greeted the final whistle with glee.

Everton news and transfers LIVE - Calvert-Lewin wanted, Brereton ... (Liverpool Echo)

Everton transfer news, rumours, gossip and speculation including the latest on Mattias Svanberg, Richarlison, Ben Godfrey, Frank Lampard and more.

Everton were handed more possession than they had been granted in their previous two matches, and they struggled to knit things together in the final third with the system they had. You could maybe keep the same personnel as the previous game, barring the necessary change of Michael Keane coming in for the injured Yerry Mina of course. The Irish Independent claim the 20-year-old will either head out on loan to a higher division next term or leave City on a permanent basis. Would they stick with what had been working in recent matches, or switch it up for a different opponent? The gap between Everton and Leeds stands at two points, though the Toffees have played one game fewer. Speaking with De Telegraaf, the 29-year-old said: "First of all, abroad, you don’t have all your friends and family around you. I’m pleased he’s getting those numbers, he is a player of such a high level. These things are out of your hands but Mason is a fantastic player. To what extent soccer changes, depends on club and league. You know it must have been a bad week when a manager has to start his programme notes by assuring his own supporters he did not 'snub' them. He moved to address this in the programme, writing: "I firstly would like to dispel any uncertainty about last Saturday... I did not intentionally snub the Watford supporters after the final whistle..." “First of all, abroad, you don’t have all your friends and family around you.

Everton move to 36 points from 35 games, two ahead of Leeds United in the third relegation position, with the latter having played a game more. The best chance of the game fell to Everton’s Demarai Grey, who skewed his shot wide from eight yards with the goal at his mercy as Watford kept a first home clean-sheet this season. WATFORD, England: Relegated Watford ended a run of 11 straight home defeats when they held Everton to a goalless draw in a poor Premier League encounter at Vicarage Road on Wednesday, denying the visitors the chance to move further away from the relegation zone.

Everton fan power praised by Alex Iwobi as new bus route planned ... (Liverpool Echo)

It's time for your Everton FC evening headlines as Alex Iwobi speaks exclusively to the ECHO and fans learn of new bus route for Brentford.

Plans are already in place for another coach welcome as the Blues return to Goodison on Sunday and numerous fan groups have been sharing the route on social media. Blues fans have been regularly lauded in recent weeks as they have shown their tremendous support for the side. Similar scenes have been seen outside Finch Farm ahead of the two most recent away trips to Leicester City and Watford too. And the Nigeria international particularly highlighted the amount of away fans who stayed in their seats on Wednesday to applaud the side off the pitch despite what might have been seen as a disappointing result. "It's good, anything I can do to help the team. The match followed another show of solidarity from Evertonians on Tuesday as they gathered in large numbers outside Finch Farm to see the team coaches off with banners, smoke bombs and songs.

Sean Dyche fully explains Everton comments and lifts lid on Frank ... (Liverpool Echo)

Sean Dyche has commented on his quotes following Burnley's win over Everton last month and explained that his words had been taken out of context.

I felt, on that night, Everton were a bit like that - so I said it to the players at half time. "I said, 'Just to be clear, just watch the interview, look at the tone and my body language, I'm representing the truth of a management story. "He, just to be clear, said that - he said 'I've spoke to Sean'. I got his number and I made sure I said that this has been completely misconstrued. Out of respect for the world of management, I'm not going to do that. He graciously said, 'No no, I've spoke to Sean, all is fine'. Of course that story can't go away so quickly, so then it grows wings a little bit - and you're like woah woah, everyone's forgetting the fact that the two people involved said fair's fair." I got a lot of heat, I made a really innocent comment in that game - which I spoke to Frank Lampard directly about actually, and people forget that.

'We are not' - what Everton dressing room thinks about 'fight' for ... (Liverpool Echo)

Abdoulaye Doucoure offered a glimpse inside the mindset of the Everton squad and spoke of his battle to regain his place in Frank Lampard's starting eleven.

Of course, I was disappointed but I'm a hard worker - I always have been and I will always work hard to get myself in the team. Against Watford was not my best night but I will keep working hard to get my best shape, as I want to do everything I can to help the team." In Goodison we have been very good and I think that's because of the fans. "The next game is going to be very tough but everyone is hungry for it and very motivated to fight again. At the moment, I think the momentum is good and the team spirit is very good. The club has climbed out of the relegation zone and is now two points clear of both Burnley and Leeds United, with a game in hand on the Yorkshire club.

The Blues now have two home games in the next seven days, against Brentford and Crystal Palace. They’ll need the passionate support that’s been the hallmark of recent games at Goodison. However, four points from two consecutive away games has to be viewed as acceptable for a team that had lost their last seven away games in the league. The two extra points would have made a startling difference to the how the picture looks at the wrong end of the Premier League table.

Everton sweating on fitness of key man amid relegation battle with ... (LiverpoolWorld)

Everton are sweating on the fitness of Fabian Delph after he picked up an injury in the goalless draw against Watford on Wednesday.

The Goodison Park boss told the club's media team: “He's been great. They've accrued 11 points and are now two points above the Premier League relegation zone. He's a good player, a great lad, great in the dressing room, trains well, experienced, calmness and good quality.
