However, the station manager declined to comment on the situation. Another commuter shared on Twitter that the four escalators leading commuters down to the CCL platform were all changed to move upwards. Unfortunately, this was what happened to numerous people at Bishan MRT station.

It is unclear if the incident at Serangoon is related to the heavy human traffic at Bishan circle line MRT. The walkway connecting the Bishan north-south line station to the Bishan circle line station and the escalators going down to the Bishan circle line train platform was similarly bottlenecked by the sheer number of morning commuters. A similar situation was sighted at Serangoon MRT, where a commuter said it took close to 15 minutes to board the train at Serangoon's circle line station.

SINGAPORE: A "signal-related" fault along the Circle Line caused crowding at some stations during the Tuesday (May 10) morning peak period.

According to a video shared by Twitter user huizhen, escalators at the Circle Line platform of Bishan station were all switched to move in an upriding direction. He added that announcements were made at the stations and on trains to inform commuters of the longer waiting time, while additional SMRT staff members were deployed to assist with crowd management. Some reported announcements at the stations stating that train departures were delayed due to an "incident".

SMRT has apologised to commuters whose journeys were affected by a signal-related fault along the Circle Line on Tuesday morning (May 10).

"In-train and station announcements were made to inform commuters of the longer waiting time. In response to a Stomp query, Mr Ho Foo Sing, head of the Circle Line, SMRT Trains said: "On 10 May at around 8am, a signal-related fault occurred along the Circle Line that affected train movement between Holland Village and Haw Par Villa stations on both bounds. Several commuters took to social media to share photos of the crowds that formed at Bishan MRT Station during the morning rush hour.
