This request for CMA expansion is based on the totality of pre-clinical, clinical, and manufacturing-related (CMC) data provided to the agency. The vaccine is given as a primary vaccination in two doses administered 21 days apart.

The first shipment of the Novavax COVID-19 vaccine arrived in Singapore on 4 May and the doses will be administered from end-May, said the MOH.

The Expert Committee on Covid-19 vaccination says it is an 'acceptable alternative' to the mRNA vaccines.

However, MOH added that "the mRNA vaccines still remain the preferred vaccines". MOH said in its May 4 statement that the EC19V recommends the Nuvaxovid vaccine as "an acceptable alternative" to the mRNA vaccines in individuals aged 18 years and above, after considering the data on its safety, efficacy and tolerability. MOH said it is currently working to onboard "selected PHPCs" to offer the Nuvaxovid vaccine and that further details would be announced "in the coming weeks".

The Novavax vaccine is different from the mRNA vaccines supplied by Pfizer and Moderna. It is a traditional protein-based vaccine that can be stored at much higher refrigeration temperatures. Novavax submitted its vaccine to the FDA in December. Novavax continues to submit regulatory filings worldwide for its vaccine use in adolescents.
