“A lot of teams need dynamic wide receivers, and I think you’re going to see six — and maybe seven — go in the first round.” They know the tendencies and needs of their respective teams, and have been writing about them for months. You saw it at the Super Bowl, but I think this is going to be bigger as far as the total number of people over the three days.” Hutchinson could really help opposite Josh Allen, and this team needs a better pass rush.” — John Reid, Florida Times-Union The price has moved to -250. “Whether I climb up and go in the third round or fall to the fifth round, I still have an opportunity to play,” he said. “Don’t really have to blow by guys to catch a ball,” he said. That’s just the minimum amount of sacrifice required by anyone taken on NFL draft day. Durability is a question, and he played in a combined 10 games the past two years. Follow along for every trade involving Day 1 picks in the 2022 NFL draft. Which teams made moves for first-rounders?
The Dolphins traded this year's first-round pick to the Chiefs for receiver Tyreek Hill. The 49ers used the 2021 pick they received in the trade to draft quarterback Trey Lance. The Chiefs sent the No. 29 pick to the Patriots for the No. 21 pick, which they used to draft Washington cornerback Trent McDuffie. The Bears traded up from No. 20 to No. 11 in 2021, giving the Giants the No. 20 pick and a fifth-rounder in 2021 (No. 164) along with a first (No. 7) and fourth-round pick (No. 112) this year. The Lions traded the No. 32 pick to the Vikings, then drafted Alabama receiver Jameson Williams. The Eagles traded the No. 15 pick to the Texans for the No. 13 pick, then drafted Georgia defensive tackle Jordan Davis. The initial first-rounder ended up being the No. 23 pick in 2021. The pick was traded from the Saints to the Commanders on Thursday. The Eagles used the No. 13 pick to draft Georgia defensive tackle Jordan Davis. The Texans used the No. 15 pick on Texas A&M guard Kenyon Green. The Seahawks used the No. 9 pick on Mississippi State tackle Charles Cross. The first-round pick was originally traded to the Dolphins from the San Francisco 49ers last year as part of the Trey Lance trade. The Commanders used the No. 16 pick on Penn State receiver Jahan Dotson. The Lions originally acquired the No. 32 pick from the Los Angeles Rams in the Matthew Stafford trade last year. The Titans used the No. 18 pick on Arkansas receiver Treylon Burks.

He is their ideal type of interior blocking prospect with his versatility tied to balanced strength and agility and fills a considerable need with Ted Karras and Shaq Mason no longer on the roster. Wyatt slipped a little with the Cardinals not picking, but Green Bay had a need to upgrade around Kenny Clark in its three-man front. The Cowboys took a late-rising player vs. Elam was worthy of a late first-rounder or early second-rounder, so this isn’t really too much of a reach. going for a wide receiver or pass rusher, but they liked McDuffie as their replacement for Chavarius Ward to make this move. Penning has a mean and nasty streak along with his athletic upside in a sturdy frame, making him the ideal bookend for Ryan Ramczyk in front of Winston. With the Olave pick earlier, the Saints are committed to better downfield pocket passing. Johnson does a little bit of everything well with his all-around skill set, featuring his natural agility and power. The Commanders took a circuitous route to getting their deep threat complement to Terry McLaurin, knowing Carson Wentz operates best when having that type of player outside. Davis had a late boost up the board as he got more attention for his sometimes explosive interior pass rush. Look for Moore to slide into the slot while Davis acts like more of a big possession body and Wilson becomes the primary field-stretcher for his second-year QB. The Falcons jumping on London made this a no-brainer. Gardner is the best corner in the draft and the Jets didn’t want to take a chance on him still being there at No. 10, given the crosstown Giants had heavy interest behind them. It’s a true boom-or-bust selection for Nick Caserio.
The Eagles enter the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft with two picks and a number of holes to fill.
It may become the new normal, but this is another deep receiver class with a handful of guys in the mix to go early in the first round. Consider this a dream scenario for both the Eagles and Wilson, who grew up as a diehard fan of the team. While offense is certainly represented with five different national pundits predicting the Eagles will take a wideout in the first round, there was a definite lean to the defensive side. That leaves Howie Roseman and Co. with more than a few options for how they want to utilize those picks, whether that’s by actually taking a player or by trading the picks to move up or down the draft board. They also both agree that the Eagles’ second pick in the first round could be Washington cornerback Trent McDuffie. We’ve looked at the specifics of which players the Eagles might draft with their two first-round picks. He controls five of the first 101 picks in the draft, which begins Thursday night and concludes Saturday. That includes first-round picks Nos. 15 and 18. Interestingly enough, our own Jeff McLane has the Eagles doing just that — trading up from 15 and back from 18. “I could see the Eagles going up to nine or 10 to go get Thibodeaux,” Jeremiah said Wednesday. “Stingley would be another one, I would keep an eye on those two guys as potential trade-up guys. And so you try to figure what would the Eagles need, who would they come up for? Earlier, James Palmer also mentioned that Roseman had been making calls and trying to move the Eagles up into the top 10. They have 10 picks total, including five in the first three rounds.

But to Jay Kornegay, the vice president of the Westgate SuperBook, one of the largest sports books in Las Vegas, the draft is likely to be a money loser. Not everyone in Las Vegas is happy that the N.F.L. draft is coming to town. The Rams are one of eight teams without a first-round pick in this year’s draft — which will be a record if all eight of those teams do not trade back into the round. Most of the Las Vegas sports books posted their odds only this week. The Miami Dolphins, who sent five draft picks to Kansas City for wide receiver Tyreek Hill — including three picks in this year’s draft — currently have just four selections. Our team in Vegas will have it covered, and I will be watching.— Kirk Herbstreit (@KirkHerbstreit) North Carolina State offensive lineman Ikem Ekwonu has a white suit with a green and white lapel that resembles the Nigerian flag. The Baltimore Ravens, Los Angeles Chargers and Philadelphia Eagles have 10 picks apiece. But they are likely to focus on the offensive and defensive lines and maybe look for a wide receiver. The time for speculation and mock drafts is over: The 2022 N.F.L. draft gets underway in Las Vegas on Thursday at 8 p.m., Eastern time. “I completely support everyone determining what’s best for their individual circumstance and recognize the value of vaccines,” he wrote. The Jets enter Thursday with five picks in the first three rounds, including Nos. 4 and 10.
The 2022 NFL draft is finally on the clock, and USA TODAY Sports will provide instant insight into all 32 of Thursday night's selections.
Of note, it hardly mirrors your typical mock draft, with Walker – who could be Jacksonville's selection at No. 1 – listed 18th, and Pitt QB Kenny Pickett not making the top 50 cut at all (only two QBs did). Here is our friendly advice for all 32 NFL teams, pertinent both to the draft and beyond, as they continue shaping their rosters ahead of the 2022 season. Quite the indicator of how trades have pervaded the roster-building process when it seemed it wasn't that long ago that teams were highly reluctant top part with prime draft capital, especially first-rounders. USA TODAY Sports' Nate Davis and Mike Middlehurst-Schwartz both released their final mock drafts this week ... Davis good-naturedly complaining about the quality of Middlehurst-Schwartz's Thursday mock as compared to his Wednesday version. USA TODAY Sports' Josh Peter did a deep dive on the suit game that occurs before the draft. But you never know in the NFL. The Jets and Lions could be receiver-needy teams to monitor. But Lisfranc surgery limited him to three games in 2021 – a year after he was slowed by ankle issues. 19. Saints (from Eagles) – 18. Eagles (from Saints) – Hutchinson, who has a non-stop motor, was also a two-time team captain in Ann Arbor – and should help establish the kind of culture coach Dan Campbell and the Lions are seeking. He’s the No. 1 overall player on many draft boards even if he might not have the ceiling of Walker. But Hutchinson is closer to a finished product, the All-American and Heisman Trophy finalist setting a Wolverines single-season record with 14 sacks in 2021 while also posting 51 hurries. However the Sin City backdrop should make the visuals uniquely spectacular this year.
It will be no surprise when cornerback Roger McCreary becomes Auburn's first player selected in the 2022 NFL Draft. The question leading up to his selection ...
There are only 262 selections in the 2022 NFL Draft. It would come as a shock if Monday were to slip on of the NFL Draft altogether The first is that McClain is ranked higher than Monday. The second is that they list McClain as an EDGE, not a box linebacker. Most mock drafts have McCreary going somewhere in the second round.
No player on offense went in the opening five picks for the first time in 31 years as the defensive side dominated the early first round of the NFL draft.
But Pickett fell to the Steelers, which sure seems like a comfortable fit for both player and team. “My mom cried the second I picked the phone up,” Ekwonu said. You know, Ja’Marr Chase, they change offenses, and I’m happy that receivers are starting to get that love.” Another Georgia standout, defensive tackle Jordan Davis, was taken by Philadelphia at 13 after yet another deal, getting matters back to the defensive side. When teams got around to the other side of the ball, they couldn’t stop. “Just being a hard worker.” Hutchinson, a sack-master whose consistency and relentlessness helped the Wolverines to their first College Football Playoff, is staying home as a pro. “I’m definitely prepared for it, being the No 1 pick,” Walker said. “I mean it’s just two big dudes out there on the perimeter,” London said. Gardner, of Cincinnati, was a major reason the Bearcats broke through into the College Football Playoff last season. I would take him at No 1 and not even blink.” It was the first time in 31 years that no player on offense went in the opening five picks.
Drop-offs at certain positions could lead to trades, the speedy Alabama receiver is connected to a bunch of teams and more last-minute nuggets and rumors.
• I thought this line from an AFC exec sort of summed up how the league feels about the group going into tonight: “There just aren’t a lot of needle-movers. It’s true that many of his splash plays are in chase-down situations and that he was more consistent as a pass rusher from the inside than the outside. Walker, I’ve spent a lot of time talking to coaches and scouts the last couple of days about the difference between the two. And it feels like that’s what this is about for a lot of people—can Hutchinson be special? Which is probably why Kayvon Thibodeaux—who’s turned some teams off through the process—really hasn’t been part of the conversation, particularly in a year when ownership has been prioritizing culture and alignment with his football folks. And he could be the guy some team winds up making a move up for. It’s also true, per NFL folks, that he needs to develop moves as a pass rusher if he’s going to be a dominant edge guy. But, to be sure, there’s definitely seen to be a drop-off after the first three guys at tackle, too. And this line from a coach who knows him really well stuck with me in that regard: “Watch him at 30 yards, and how his second gear kicks in.” So I did. I could see Kansas City making a jump, too, but maybe for a corner—with a receiver like Georgia’s George Pickens being in play with the first-rounder they don’t wind up moving. If you want one of them, it’d seem getting in front of the Jets at No. 10 might be the play—presuming Walker and Hutchinson are, in some order, Nos. 1 and 2. So here’s a look at where the pressure points for those spots might be …
After Travon Walker and Aidan Hutchinson were the first off the board, several trades shook up Round 1. Who won the first day in Las Vegas?
Cine delivers some big hits in run support and is a reliable tackler in space with sideline-to-sideline range. He has a quick first step, violent and active hands and a nonstop motor with the versatility to line up inside or outside. He showed off his elite quickness and athleticism by running a 4.77 40-yard dash at 304 pounds at the combine. Johnson led the ACC in both tackles for loss (17.5) and sacks (11.5) in 2021 as the ACC Defensive Player of the Year. Johnson continued to improve his stock throughout the pre-draft process, and he uses his blend of strength, length (34” arms) and burst to make plays against the run and pass. Kaiir has outstanding straight-line speed (4.39 40-yard dash), and he’s at his best in press where he can use his size and physicality at the line of scrimmage. Due to his physicality, run-after-catch prowess and how the Razorbacks varied his alignments, it’s easy to see how the Titans could use Burks similarly to how the 49ers use Deebo Samuel. Burks finished 2021 with 66 receptions for 1,104 yards, 14 carries for 112 yards and a total of 12 touchdowns. The Commanders had only one receiver (Terry McLaurin) with 400-plus yards last season and will benefit from adding a talented receiver like Dotson. Creating separation with his nuanced route-running and quickness, Dotson has outstanding hands and is elusive in the open field even though he won’t break a lot of tackles. Improved hand usage will help cut down on holding penalties, but the former five-star recruit has a powerful lower half, outstanding length and is at his best in the run game. The Ravens get a steal with my second-ranked player overall. Quick and elusive, Wilson ran a faster-than-expected 40-yard dash (4.38) in Indianapolis. He’s a complete receiver that finished 2021 with 70 catches for 1,058 yards and 12 touchdowns. He’s a top-three prospect, so the Giants get some good value here. The Jets needed an upgrade at corner, and he has the chance to become one of the best.

Long expected to be the No. 1 overall pick, where did Aidan Hutchinson actually wind up going?
He was runner-up for the 2021 Heisman Memorial Trophy, becoming just the fourth defensive player in the 87-year history of the award to finish first or second in the final voting. A two-time captain (2020-21), Hutchinson leaves Ann Arbor as one of the most decorated players in school history. Hutchinson is the 33rd Wolverine to be drafted by the Lions franchise. Hutchinson became the highest-drafted defender in school history. Hutchinson not only led Michigan in sacks in 2021, but he broke the single-season record of 11 set by his father, Chris Hutchinson, back in 1992. Suddenly, Georgia edge rusher Travon Walker — who didn’t even lead his team in sacks, as he has six compared to Robert Beal’s 6.5 — became the nouveau pick for the Jacksonville Jaguars in the top spot.
The Detroit Lions used the No. 2 pick to select Michigan's Aidan Hutchinson, then traded up to the 12th pick to snag Alabama WR Jameson Williams.
As a junior, Williams had 79 catches for 1,572 yards and 15 touchdowns, making him one of five FBS players and the only SEC player to eclipse 1,500 receiving yards last season. His mother, Melissa, also went to Michigan, as did his sisters, Mia and Aria, who both graduated from the university. Hutchinson set the Michigan single-season record with 14 sacks in 2021, a mark previously held by David Bowens (1996) and LaMarr Woodley (2006) with 12. According to ESPN Stats & Information research, they have finished in the bottom five in pressure percentage in each of the past six seasons. "He's going to change the dynamic of this team just by his presence and how he plays," Detroit defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn said. "It's always great to get the hometown favorite, but I know there's a lot of fanfare for Aidan," Holmes said.
Georgia defensive tackle Jordan Davis with his mother Shay Allen on the red carpet at the Fountains of Bellagio before the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft ...
It was a big night for the Big Apple, Kenny Pickett and wide receivers. The same couldn't be said for Malik Willis. Aaron Rodgers and Patrick Mahomes.
Pickett became the first quarterback to be selected with the No. 20 pick in the Super Bowl era, and he's going to a stable organization that will allow for a year to develop behind Mitchell Trubisky. Baltimore didn't move at the No. 14 spot, and used the pick to draft Hamilton, a play-making safety who will help a secondary that was riddled by injuries last season. Pickett's hand size was a popular topic at the NFL Combine, but that will only get brought up if he struggles at the next level. Then, the Eagles traded the No. 18 pick to Tennessee for receiver A.J. Brown, who gives quarterback Jalen Hurts a legit No. 1. On one hand, the Packers and Chiefs didn't chase at the position after the run was completed. As for the second pick. What did those Super Bowl contenders do to address the position in the first round? Johnson slid down the board a little more than expected, and the Jets pounced on that value. The Jets improved with an impressive three-pack. It's not a flashy first day, but Schoen took the best players available. Arizona traded for Marquise Brown, and Philadelphia traded for A.J. Brown. Green Bay and Kansas City didn't address the receiver position, which was another surprise. Rookie Aziz Ojulari led the Giants with eight sacks last season.
Five Georgia defensive players were taken in the first round of the NFL draft on Thursday night, eclipsing the draft record set by the 2004 Miami defense ...
In the 2006 draft Florida State's Ernie Sims, Kamerion Wimbley, Brodrick Bunkley and Antonio Cromartie were selected in the first round. Six picks later the Packers dove in again with Georgia defensive tackle Devonte Wyatt at the No. 28 pick. Five Georgia defensive players were selected in the first round Thursday night, a record from one defense in the common draft era. By comparison Michigan's Aidan Hutchinson, taken No. 2 overall by the Detroit Lions, had 16.5 tackles for loss and 14 sacks this past season on his own. Defensive end/outside linebacker Travon Walker got it all rolling as he went No. 1 overall as the Jacksonville Jaguars opened the evening with the selection of the first Bulldogs player. The Bulldogs led the nation in scoring defense (10.2 points per game) this past season as they surrendered only 16 touchdowns all season.
Projecting Friday night's 73 picks, including names like Malik Willis, George Pickens, Desmond Ridder and Kenneth Walker III.
He has sideline-to-sideline range and ran the second-fastest 40-yard dash (4.44) among linebackers at the combine. Lining up all over the formation, the sure-handed McBride was the focal point of Colorado State’s offense and posted rare stats for a collegiate tight end (90/1,121/1) in 2021. While he isn’t as effective against the run, his length (34 ⅛" arms), bend and active hands should allow him to become a productive pass rusher early in his career. Brisker has the versatility to succeed in a variety of roles and alignments. Although he has shouldered a heavy workload (800 career touches), Hall was highly productive in college and has the frame and versatile skill set to be a featured back. Watson has an elite combination of size and speed, with a wide catch radius and is elusive for a big receiver. Improved decision making and ball placement helped Corral cut down on interceptions (five) in 2021 compared to the previous season (14), and Pete Carroll should appreciate Corral’s competitive play style. A four-year starter with 44 career wins, Ridder has the ability to process what he sees quickly and to make throws to all three levels of the field. While he missed most of the past season with a torn ACL, the lanky receiver has natural hands and excellent body control. At Georgia, he was the leader of the best defense in the country. He finished with his most productive season (13 TFLs and six sacks) in 2021. He generates plenty of zip on his throws, and his elite speed and dynamism as a runner stresses opposing defenses.
The first round of the NFL draft continued Georgia football's hot streak, which includes ending a 40-season title drought and former quarterback Matthew ...
The selections marked the first time one team drafted two players from the same school in the first round of a draft during the common draft era. That number is one short of the record for total first-round picks from one team shared by Miami in 2004 and Alabama in 2021. The Bengals were led by another former first overall pick in quarterback Joe Burrow. In the following month, the 2009 draft's first overall pick, Matthew Stafford, became the first Georgia quarterback to win a Super Bowl as a starter. Philly hadn't drafted a DT in the first round since Fletcher Cox in 2012. Just months after the Atlanta Braves won the World Series, the Bulldogs kicked off 2022 by winning the College Football Playoff National Championship in January, ending a 40-season title drought.
It was a big night for linemen, receivers, and the state of Georgia, but a very quiet one for quarterbacks. In surprising moves, A.J. Brown was traded to ...
The New Orleans Saints traded a host of picks over the next three years in a series of deals to move up the board to select Ohio State receiver Chris Olave at No. 11, then added Northern Iowa tackle Trevor Penning with the 19th pick. Thibodeaux was a consensus All-America selection in 2021 and one of the top defenders in the nation for three years. Pittsburgh’s Kenny Pickett finally became the only quarterback selected when the Pittsburgh Steelers made him the 20th overall pick. It was a big night for linemen, receivers, and the state of Georgia, but a very quiet one for quarterbacks. Justin Herbert, now a Pro Bowl quarterback for the Los Angeles Chargers, faced similar vague whispers when leaving Oregon in 2020. Wilson combines pure speed with route running that is two parts Cooper Kupp and one part Bob Fosse. If Wilson needs three jukes to get open, he makes three jukes, but some evaluators worry because when Wilson needs one juke to get open, he makes three jukes. Walker recorded a mere six sacks in the 2021 season for the College Football Playoff champions, but his 35.5-inch arms and outstanding results in athletic tests like the three-cone drill impressed scouts during the pre-draft process, prompting the Jaguars to choose him over higher-rated, more-accomplished prospects. Michigan edge rusher Aidan Hutchinson, who is incrementally less athletic than Walker but had 14 sacks in 2021, fell to the Detroit Lions at the second pick. The Giants selected Oregon edge rusher Kayvon Thibodeaux fifth and Alabama guard Evan Neal eighth. Johnson recorded 11.5 sacks in 2021 after transferring from a Georgia program that produced five first-round selections on Thursday. The Jets selected Cincinnati cornerback Ahmad Gardner fourth and Ohio State wide receiver Garrett Wilson 10th, then traded up for Florida State edge rusher Jermaine Johnson II at 26th overall. Until the team proves otherwise, if opponents protect their quarterbacks by stashing him behind cones or atop a high bookshelf, the Jaguars are set.
Based on our evaluations here at Touchdown Wire, here are the best prospects left on the board after the first round of the 2022 NFL draft. Malik Willis, QB, ...
NFL Comparison: Eric Reid. Selected with the 18th overall pick in the 2013 draft out of LSU by the 49ers, Reid played a primary free safety role in Vic Fangio’s Sen Francisco’s defense, and then became a very good free/box/slot hybrid over time. Conclusion: Cross’ specific value to an NFL team is that you don’t see a lot of guys with his height/weight profile playing true free safety roles as much as he does. Strengths: Joseph is a good as any safety in this class at tracking the deep ball in single-high alignments, and using his ball skills to make the play. Because he has a great sense of how to get past blockers, and an impressive close to the pocket. He was named the Offensive MVP of the Cascade Conference, and a First-Team All-League defensive back. Among many “favorite plays” of his, this snap against New Mexico stands out: His best role in the NFL is likely as a weak-side linebacker, similar to Lloyd, so he can flow to the football and put that athleticism to use: “Spatial awareness” is one of my favorite “Oh, look how smart we are” scouting terms, and you see the inverse example at times when you watch Ebiketie’s game. On this sack from the edge, he shows open space movement skills that should have NFL defensive coordinators wondering if he can be used as a box/edge hybrid guy. 247Sports graded him as a five-star recruit, and ranked him as the 16th player in the country. NFL Comparison: Alex Mack. The centers who can pop at the second level and do athletic things in space are the ones who tend to get more public praise, because it’s not as “fun” to watch a center who can just work defensive tackles closer to the line of scrimmage. So, when we get to the players who didn’t hear their names in the first round of the 2022 NFL draft, it doesn’t mean at all that these guys won’t be NFL stars — in fact, there’s no barrier to future stardom at all.
2022 NFL Draft Round 1 Recap, Winners & Losers: Jets/Giants ace multiple picks, Eagles trade for A.J. Brown, Kenny Pickett only QB off the board to the Steelers ...
You'd have to go back to the 1991 NFL Draft to find a similar start to the first round to the one we just witnessed. For instance, in a recent two-round mock draft, CBS Sports NFL Draft expert Ryan Wilson had Strange coming off the board in the second round at No. 51 overall. It wasn't even just the draft community that was surprised by the pick. As we were still gaining all the information about the Hollywood Brown trade, a mammoth blockbuster deal came down that saw the Titans trade star receiver A.J. Brown to the Philadelphia Eagles for the No. 18 overall pick and a third-rounder. Back in the 1997 NFL Draft, Jim Druckenmiller was taken No. 26 overall by the San Francisco 49ers. If there was going to be a blockbuster trade involving a receiver, many pointed to it centering around the 49ers receiver as there had been rumors of discontent and a possible trade request for weeks. While his "slide" only lasted until the No. 12 overall pick, it was a surprising team that ultimately plucked him off the board. Throughout the pre-draft process, the talking point on Alabama receiver Jameson Williams was that -- when healthy -- he is the top player at his position in this class. Instead, Marquise Brown was the first domino to fall as the Ravens elected to trade him -- and a third-round pick -- to the Arizona Cardinals for the No. 23 overall selection. Not only did we get the typical drama of a draft, but we also had blockbuster trades thrown our way along with trends that we haven't seen in decades. Entering the draft, the NFL was waiting for the Deebo Samuel shoe to drop at some point. Naturally, the madness from free agency carried over into the opening round of the draft where there were a number of jaw-dropping moments.
The first night of the 2022 NFL draft is in the books, but talented players remain. Where do Malik Willis and Desmond Ridder land?
Trey McBride looks ready to step into the lineup as an NFL tight end, with the blocking skills in the running game to match his production as a receiver. But with Savage hitting free agency for 2023, and 2023 being a void year for Amos, preparing for the future is a wise move for the organization. He is an explosive athlete off the edge and the raw tools are there, and if he can add to his tool-kit as a pass rusher, this could be a huge steal for Atlanta. Hall was connected to the Buffalo Bills in some mock drafts in the first round, but the Bills get him here and give Josh Allen another asset on the offensive side of the football. The main addition for the Arizona Cardinals on the first night of the draft came via a trade, as the Cardinals added Marquise Brown from the Ravens in exchange for the 23rd selection in the draft. This could be a great bit of value for the Cardinals at this point in the second round. Only one quarterback went in the first round Thursday night, and it was Kenny Pickett to the Pittsburgh Steelers with the 20th selection. Sam Howell looked like a potential first-overall selection at a few different points in his career, and is one of the more efficient deep-ball throwers in this class. They address the latter, adding Kyler Gordon from Washington. Gordon is a fascinating study, with the ability to click and close on routes and to be disruptive coming downhill in run support. Without a pick in the first round, Chris Ballard and the Indianapolis Colts are finally on the clock. In a way, this could be a perfect scenario for the quarterback, as the organization can take their time with him and not feel the pressure to play him early that would exist had they drafted him inside the top ten. With a need at pass rusher, they add Nik Bonitto from Oklahoma, who used his speed off the edge to put up impressive pressure numbers for the Sooners.
Ranking the top 230 prospects who could still hear their names called in rounds two through seven, including Nakobe Dean, Malik Willis and David Ojabo.
Watson has an elite combination of size and speed with a wide catch radius, and is elusive for a big receiver. Hall finished with his most productive season (13 TFLs and six sacks) in 2021. His intelligence and instincts allow him to play fast and impact the game in so many different ways. He had a 95/1,292/10 line in ’21 and PFF credited Moore with 26 broken tackles after the catch, which led FBS wide receivers last season. Although he has shouldered a heavy workload (800 career touches), Hall was highly productive and has the frame and versatile skill set to be a featured back. For teams that miss out on Jordan Davis or prefer to wait (a little longer) on a run-stuffing nose tackle, there won’t be much of a drop off with Jones. While he isn’t as effective against the run, his length (34 ⅛" arms), bend and active hands should allow him to become a productive pass rusher early in his career. Pickens’s best season came as a highly-touted true freshman when he hauled in 49 receptions for 727 yards and eight touchdowns in 2019. The scheme-diverse corner is a smooth and fluid mover with excellent ball skills. Similar to Elam, Hall has an NFL pedigree as he follows in the footsteps of his stepfather (Jeff Smith) and cousin (Roger Craig). Ojabo is relatively new to football, but he finished last season with 11 sacks—second in the Big Ten behind Hutchinson—and his pass-rush moves are more developed than one would expect given his limited experience. He’s joined by Iowa State running back Breece Hall, Georgia linebacker Nakobe Dean and other collegiate stars who didn’t hear their names called on Thursday night in Las Vegas.

Thursday night also saw a record number of trades as teams made moves for players they wanted to target. GO FURTHER The first two trades up of Round 1 also involved receivers. GO FURTHER Before the draft, I put together my all-fit team: one player at each defensive position group who is a perfect fit for modern NFL defenses. GO FURTHER Pitt’s Kenny Pickett was the only quarterback drafted in the first round, leaving several passing prospects searching for a home in Rounds 2 and 3. The Colts will make their first pick at No. 42 overall Friday. Here are six players who could be good fits for them if they're available.
Those abilities are quite good, as he's 6-4 with a 4.26-second 40-yard dash time and a 42-inch vertical, better than all but one cornerback at the NFL combine. The Colts' needs are mostly on the offensive side of the ball, but that doesn't mean they won't take the best player available at another position. The Colts don't appear to be in the quarterback market after committing the next two years to Ryan, but big moves at this position happen earlier than expected. But he showed at the Senior Bowl that his routes are more advanced than what he was asked to do, and if the right receivers coach can get him to use more of his size, he has a route to a potential superstar. Whether they can afford to spend their first pick on a player who won't see the field for two years is another question. Pryor's presence could allow them to be patient with Raimann as he continues to learn the finer points of the game. This draft does not have a Kyle Pitts at tight end, but it does have a number of guys who could fit the Day 2 conversation as potential long-term answers. But with the 17th-best relative athletic score for any offensive tackle since 1987, he's just growing into his 6-foot-6 frame and has a chance to become an explosive and savvy player so long as he can overcome his 32 7/8-inch arms. At 5-10 and 195 pounds, he's smaller than the Colts typically draft at this position, but it's possible they loosen those standards now that they have Michael Pittman Jr. as their No. 1. He grew into his frame only in the past couple of years, and he's played in a run-first offense that has maxed out his receiving production at 801 yards last season. His 136-inch broad jump was better than any receiver at the NFL combine, and his 4.36-second 40-yard dash and 38.5-inch vertical jump were top-six marks, all for a player who measures 6-foot-4. So, as the Colts get ready to make selections at picks No. 42 and 73, here are six of the best fits available:
Share this article · QB Malik Willis, Liberty · QB Desmond Ridder, Cincinnati · WR Skyy Moore, Western Michigan · WR George Pickens, Georgia · OT Abraham Lucas, ...
It would be somewhat of a luxury pick at No. 42 overall, but the fit is seamless. This would be somewhat of a surprise at No. 42 considering it’s not a massive need, but Woolen has the upside that teams will bet on. Lucas was a right tackle in college but his elite athleticism and length will allow him to make the transition to the left side. Watson could have gone in the first round but that would have been based purely on his athleticism. They might have to trade up from No. 42 overall and he’s risky considering the development that needs to take place, but the ceiling could be worth it. Pickens was a fringe first-round projection but it’s not a surprise he fell to Day 2.

Thursday night brought good news for the Packers, Jared Goff, New York tabloids and Elon Musk. But as for the Cards, Commanders and hand-size advocates…
This is good news for the future of the NFL. This is bad news for a coaching staff that will shoulder the responsibility of making it all happen. Keim has spent a notable amount of draft capital on the wide receiver position; a habit that has only accelerated under the franchise’s transition to a modified Air Raid offense. Pickett is going to a capably run organization in Pittsburgh. Chances are pretty good that he has a fine career. There seemed to be a push just a year ago to surround Jackson with more receivers to help him showcase his accuracy and ability to drive the ball long and outside. It’s difficult to see where offenses are trending, look at Willis’s raw abilities on tape and not see an opening for him to succeed fairly quickly in the NFL right now. The result is an intriguing team on paper that boasts one of the best offensive lines in football and, perhaps, with the addition of Aidan Hutchinson, a far more representative defensive line. There is certainly an analytical and schematic case for Hollywood Brown to the Cardinals. Perhaps the marriage of Brown, Kliff Kingsbury, Kyler Murray and DeAndre Hopkins makes this criticism look foolish in retrospect, but it’s difficult to view GM Steve Keim as a runaway winner on Thursday when the Eagles netted a much better receiver for just an additional third-round pick. Jackson’s style of play was always going to complicate his already-complicated, self-represented contract discussions with the Ravens. Now, Jackson is void of established playmakers beyond Mark Andrews, his phenomenal tight end, and could find himself leaving the backfield on foot more often than usual. But that shouldn’t erase the fact that he came out of Thursday with two players who could immediately change the complexion of Robert Saleh’s defense, and arguably the best receiver in the draft. Dotson is more of a luxury for a team that already has the identity and depth to utilize him. Despite providing a massive vote of confidence for Matt Rhule and Sam Darnold in his pre-draft press conference, I cannot imagine the Panthers’ owner wanted to go out and take a ridiculous long shot on a quarterback. We’ll write a little bit more about the Hollywood Brown trade below, but compare what Roseman gave up for Brown and what he paid to extend him, versus what the Cardinals sacrificed for a lesser wide receiver who will end up needing to get paid almost as much despite less production and less functional uses for him in an offense.
The lack of consensus top players, paired with salary cap concerns with wide receivers turned the night into a trade-filled free-for-all with teams dancing ...
He’s going to be a great player for a long time in the secondary. Personally, I would have taken Ikem Ekwonu at No. 5 and Kayvon Thibodeaux at No. 7, but this is a minor quibble. The Steelers decided to take Kenny Pickett over him, which is a mistake — but it’s their mistake. I know there’s a lot of angst in trading away Hollywood Brown, but my God did the Ravens pull off a first round heist. I was incredibly critical of the Jets’ decision to take Zach Wilson a year ago, but this year the team absolutely killed the first round. Instead, the Vikings GIFTED the Lions the No. 12 overall pick in one of the worst, most lopsided first round trades I have ever seen. Sure, the Packers had no control over the wide receiver run, or teams jumping up for the talent at the position, I get that, but the Cardinals were able to get Marquise Brown for the No. 23 pick. Wilson had long been linked to New York, and he’s the ideal do-everything receiver the team (and more importantly Zach Wilson) needs. To this end he’s going to be a nightmare for opposing wide receivers, and an effective player to mitigate Josh Allen’s legs. It all starts with Sauce Gardner, who I think is the best cornerback in this class. When the dust settled we had some very clear winners from the first round of the draft, who grabbed incredible talent at their draft spot, or danced around to board to maximize value and still land great players. This was never going to be a normal NFL Draft, but I don’t think anyone was prepared for what unfolded on Thursday night.
Will the Jaguars' gamble of taking Travon Walker pay off?
According to Valk, Long was on the road “minutes later … after stopping at a store to buy a jacket and scarf.” Long went all the way from Los Angeles to the Yukon-Alaska border, and only one of his photos made it into the magazine: a black-and-white shot of the climbing party from a distance. The only players from the ’97 draft who went on to attempt more than 200 passes were Plummer, Koy Detmer and Danny Weurfel. The strange thing about the photo is that it was shot by two of SI’s favorite outside photographers of the late 1960s. ‘It’s Sheedy and Long.’ In Los Angeles the girl comes on and says, ‘Sheedy and Long. You want Mr. Sheedy or Mr....’ ‘Well, which one is in?’ says Bloodgood. ‘I'll put him on,’ she says. (Caveat: before 2022, when five defenders were taken to start the draft.) Conor Orr wrote more about the draft than any person should, so I’ll just link to his author page instead of one individual post. This year’s QB class was widely regarded as a weak one, so it wasn’t a surprise that we had to wait until the back half of the round for one to be taken. Still, it was a bit of a surprise that only one (Pitt’s Kenny Pickett) was chosen. While Hutchinson’s and Thibodeaux’s college production made them safe choices at the top of the draft, Jacksonville is betting on Walker to take a leap once he gets to the NFL. He’s a stout run defender but had only 9.5 sacks in three college seasons. Kevin Hanson gave Detroit an A+ for the Hutchinson pick, not just because of his talent but because he fills a need for a team that struggled to pressure opposing quarterbacks last year. That’s why Hanson gave Jacksonville a B- for the pick. Georgia’s Travon Walker went first to the Jaguars, who had been rumored to be targeting him for the past week or so, allowing the Lions to take a hometown product many considered to be the best player available, Michigan’s Aidan Hutchinson. After that, the moves were more unpredictable.

Andy Dalton, a second-round pick in 2011, also started six games for the Bears. The former Liberty quarterback enters Friday's second round as one of the best players available, regardless of position. NFL Draft by the numbers: No RBs taken, only 1 QB picked and more stats to know from the first round
The first day of the 2022 NFL Draft has come to a close with some usual surprises in terms of reaches, trades and players who slipped.
He is a player who has the leadership and mental intangibles that teams covet from the quarterback and despite the lack of a top ten ceiling, Ridder in the middle of the second would be a great pick for the Seahawks. He is an unbelievably raw talent, although he has the ceiling of a player who can contend for a Defensive Player of the Year award if he can reach his ceiling. No team traded up into the first to draft him (giving them the fifth-year option), which is rather surprising and can be viewed as a message that the league might not be as high on him as many thought.
Jacksonville Jaguars have the first pick as the NFL gears up for the 2022–2023 season.

Indianapolis Colts (from Washington Commanders) 35. Tennessee Titans (from New York Jets) Dish Network's Sling lower-tiered Orange plan will run you $35 per month. Yep. There are a number of options, too. And the Houston Texans grabbed cornerback Derek Stingley Jr. from LSU. As with any network-centric programming, the best way to watch for free on a big screen is with a good HD antenna. The NFL Network will also air the 2022 NFL Draft. This year’s NFL Draft began on Thursday, April 28 and will run through Saturday, April 30. There are still plenty of ways to watch.

The Bengals did a lot in free agency to upgrade their offensive line (a veritable and obvious necessity), and they may do more in this particular mock. Wyatt is an amazing interior defensive lineman who brings Kenny Clark to mind, and when dealing with the Packers’ interior defensive line over the last few seasons, it’s been all about doubling Clark and singling everybody else. Since Johnson was my top edge-rusher in this class, and the Jets managed to get him by trading up to 26 with the Titans… well, this is ridiculous. With that 12th overall pick, Detroit gets the best receiver in this class (in my opinion), and a player who, when he recovers from injury, should have a Tyreek Hill-like impact on a Lions offense in desperate need of downfield speed and separation. This isn’t the flashiest pick, and there are those who will criticize the team for moving down when they could have had Jameson Williams with the 11th pick. Add Wilson to Corey Davis and Elijah Moore, and the Jets’ offense just got a lot more interesting. And he’s a better run-blocker than you may think, or Pete Carroll wouldn’t touch him with a 2000-mile pole. Well, my NFL comp for Ekonu was Taylor Moton, who will now be Moton’s bookend, if the Panthers choose to keep Ekwonu at tackle — he could also be a plus guard. Gardner played about 75% press in his snaps last season, and the Bearcats played more single-high than any NCAA defense except for LSU’s. There is no better fit for Robert Saleh’s defense in this draft class, regardless of position. The Texans obviously hope that Stingley can capitalize on his 2019 tape, which was first-overall pick stuff, and get past the last two seasons of injuries and relative ineffectiveness. I think that Florida State’s Jermaine Johnson II is the better edge defender, but it’s hard to argue against Walker’s potential. Add in who else might have still been on the boards, and you start to get a clearer picture of each pick.

A player's agent told Schefter that his player was in demand and would go in the first round and Schefter made sure to put this "information" out there to his 9.4 million Twitter followers. The host of the very popular Ryen Russillo Podcast shared his thoughts on everything from the NBA playoffs to Kevin Durant vs. He also had Aaron Rodgers for a lengthy interview and got the scoop that Rodgers did not know Davante Adams was going to bolt for Las Vegas when the quarterback re-signed with Green Bay. And it’s not that ESPN and the NFL Network offer bad coverage. I’m talking about the coverage from ESPN and NFL Network. To be clear, I’m not talking about the draft itself.

The going rate for a top NFL wideout in this offseason’s trade market has included, to this point, a 2022 first-round pick. Hall or Michigan State’s Kenneth Walker should become the first one chosen at some point Friday. The run on wide receivers should resume at some point Friday. He’s a steady player and is likely to come off the board relatively soon. Booth and several other cornerbacks should be in demand Friday. The Green Bay Packers traded Davante Adams earlier this offseason. He could be an effective interior pass rusher as a situational player. Bernhard Raimann, T, Central Michigan: He grew up in Austria and began his college football career as a tight end. Now, quarterback-needy teams must weigh what’s still available against the prospect of trading for a veteran such as Cleveland’s Baker Mayfield or San Francisco’s Jimmy Garoppolo. It would not be surprising for a team to move up to take Willis quickly in the second round. Willis has great potential but perhaps will need to be given time to develop. Only one of them, Pittsburgh’s Kenny Pickett, was selected, going 20th overall by the hometown Steelers.

McBride can block, he can catch and he's a card-carrying tough guy. Needing to find a future starter at tackle, Green Bay takes a shot on Petit-Frere, who has experience on both the right and left side. After using first-round picks on cornerback Trent McDuffie and edge rusher George Karlaftis to address the defense, Kansas City takes a swing on the talented Georgia wideout to help restock the passing game. The addition of a quality running back makes sense on the surface -- and it makes even more sense considering the potential suspension coming for Alvin Kamara. The Seahawks might not have planned on drafting a QB this year, but is it even possible to pass on Willis at this spot? With Round 1 of the 2022 NFL Draft in the books, here's a look at how Rounds 2 and 3 could play out in Las Vegas on Friday, beginning at 7 p.m. ET on NFL Network.
What does Mr. Irrelevant mean in the NFL draft? Heres a look back at the meaning, origin and history of the nickname.
Grant Stuard earned the honor of Mr. Irrelevant in 2021. The Chicago Bears selected two productive Mr. Irrelevants in back-to-back drafts. Ryan Succop went to the Kansas City Chiefs with the 256th pick that year and is still playing. So what does the title of Mr. Irrelevant even mean? “The Irrelevant Week tradition shares an inspirational story about a champion of perseverance – and that’s an important message for today’s society.” It’s not until the summer that Irrelevant Week takes place in Newport Beach, Calif., with a series of events.

McDuffie was my third-ranked corner and my eighth-ranked player overall ahead of the draft. The Jets added my model’s No. 12 overall player near the bottom of the first round, which is really only a fraction of the value they added tonight. Johnson had the second-most QB pressures (46) in the ACC in 2021, per PFF. The Jets will be counting on the rookie to generate that type of production as a pro, after the team ranked 30th in QB pressure rate (22.7%) last year, per NGS. The Ravens got my ninth-ranked player at No. 25 overall, hitting the Vegas jackpot (I had to!) again in Round 1. Round 1 of the 2022 NFL Draft is in the books. Had Hamilton gone to a team like the Cowboys, who have many solid pieces but need a safety, he would have provided a projected win-share increase of 0.74. But on the Ravens? The win-share increase is 0.78, the highest possible mark for Hamilton on any team.

Aidan Hutchinson showed up to the 2022 NFL Draft wearing a unique suit jacket with a custom liner sewn in by his mother. Here's what made it so special.
Last year's No. 2 selection, New York Jets quarterback Zach Wilson, landed a rookie contract worth $35.1 million over four years, including a $22.9 million signing bonus. Indeed, the jacket's lining — sewn in by Hutchinson's mother, Melissa — featured dozens of quotes from the highly-touted NFL prospect's journals. Wearing your dreams in your jacket might be a new one.
With six rounds and 230 picks remaining, there's plenty of time for teams to make or break their drafts. Still, it's always fun to overreact to the first-round ...
He’s had the opportunity to extend with the Ravens since last summer and he still hasn’t. This is one to watch throughout the offseason. Good news for Baltimore: The Ravens made some wise moves, trading away receiver Marquise Brown to get an extra first-round pick. During a draft interview with Pat McAfee, Rodgers admitted that he re-signed with the expectation that Adams would stick around. All the pieces are coming together around the QB spot, and they could go all-in for one next year. Well, the Eagles acquired Pro Bowl wideout A.J. Brown and immediately signed him to a four-year, $100 million extension. Now, he’ll have to settle for the second round. The Eagles’ second first-round pick (No. 18) was made by the Tennessee Titans. How, you ask? He will obviously be disappointed, but plenty of good quarterbacks have fallen outside of the first round. Is football back in the Big Apple? It certainly feels like it after the first round. Kenny Pickett was the only quarterback taken in Round 1, leaving Willis in the green room all night. With the No. 10 pick, the Jets picked Ohio State receiver Garrett Wilson. That gives second-year quarterback Zach Wilson a much-needed weapon. With six rounds and 230 picks remaining, there’s plenty of time for teams to make or break their drafts.
Teams will be much more willing to grab this year's QBs in the second round, with all eyes now on Desmond Ridder and the Titans.
• Tampa Bay is picking first Friday, and that 33rd pick has been a catbird seat since the current format went into place a few years ago—since teams have all day to reset their boards and make offers for the pick. The idea of Williams opposite Justin Jefferson is a pretty fun one to think about. The Titans moved down from No. 26 to No. 35, with 35 being the third pick tonight and a more appropriate spot to grab Ridder (Seattle’s also done homework on him). Simply put, if you take one in the first round— the 2019 Cardinals notwithstanding—you’re probably done looking for a few years, and you’re probably tying your job security to the guy. And, in the case of a Sam Howell or a Desmond Ridder, the high floor of a quarterback available Friday could give teams a worst-case scenario where they get a quality backup on a very cheap contract for the next few years (with upside for the pick becoming much more). That new Steeler Kenny Pickett was the only one taken Thursday reflects what we’ve all really been saying for three months now and confirms that this simply isn’t a great year at the position in the draft.
Malik Willis surprisingly went unpicked in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft. So how much longer will the QB have to wait to hear his name called?
However, now that we're onto Day 2, the prospect of getting a potential star QB may be too good to pass up again. Behind Seattle, the Colts, Falcons, Lions, Commanders and Saints (No. 49) could be lurking as trade-up threats for Willis. Indy and Washington both acquired a veteran QB this offseason, but Matt Ryan is about to turn 37 and it wouldn't hurt to have an insurance policy for Carson Wentz, who is coming off a couple of rough seasons. The Giants just declined Daniel Jones' fifth-year option on Thursday and have a new regime in town. Yet he was one of four players in the green room without a new team by the end of Thursday, along with linebacker Nakobe Dean, cornerback Kyler Gordon and fellow quarterback Matt Corral. While we knew coming in this wasn't the strongest QB class, it was still a surprise to see Pickett as the only one taken through 32 picks. It was the first time that only one quarterback was selected in Round 1 since 2013, when the Buffalo Bills grabbed EJ Manuel 16th.

In the run game, he doesn't roll his hips at the point of attack, but stays on his feet and flashes upper torque to turn and dump defenders. He also has the ability to grab and control the wrist of his opponent. He likes to cradle-catch balls on his frame, which leads to some drops, but he flashes the ability to high point and finish. Against the run, his burst and angles to the ball are highly impressive, but he will go low and miss a few tackles. He has the ability to layer the ball accurately in the intermediate area of the field and he throws a beautiful, lofting deep ball. The dip/rip move is his bread and butter, but he needs to add to his arsenal. He gives up separation out of the break, but he has the ability to recover and locate the ball in the air. He has a quick release and he can really power the ball outside the numbers and down the field. He is fluid and fast in everything he does on the field. He has the fluidity to match up in man coverage underneath and he’s a dynamic blitzer. He has some pop out of his plant and he can find and play the ball. Against the pass, he has the athleticism to match up with RBs and TEs underneath.

After a blockbuster first round, the Eagles have two picks tonight during day two of the 2022 NFL Draft.
During his on-stage interview, Davis said he grew up watching Cox and expressed excitement in teaming up with one of the team captains. The 6-foot-1, 226-pound Brown figures to make immediate impact. General manager Jon Robinson indicated last Friday he didn’t “foresee [a trade involving Brown] happening.” Ultimately, the Eagles needed a first rounder and a third rounder to get the deal done, plus the lucrative extension for Brown, who turns 25 in June. Moments after moving up two spots to select Georgia defensive tackle Jordan Davis with their top pick at No. 13, the Eagles executed a blockbuster trade with the Titans and acquired star wide receiver A.J. Brown in exchange for the Nos. 18 and 101 overall picks. The online apparel company Fanatics is already offering the wide receiver’s jersey, along with sweatshirts, T-shirts, and other merchandise. Because ABC is airing the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft on Friday starting at 7 p.m., Jeopardy! and Wheel of Fortune will be preempted. Beyond his mom’s rooting interest, Davis also has a relationship with Eagles defensive line coach Tracy Rocker dating back to high school. They gave up one fourth rounder (124th overall) and two fifth rounders (Nos. 154 and 162) to do so. I’m excited to see her excel and flourish in the new city.” Brown told ESPN the Titans’ offer went as high as $16 million per season with incentives that would have raised it to $20 million. The Birds also currently hold the No. 83 pick in the third round, where teams have just five minutes to get their picks in. With 18 teams ahead of them, it’ll be a minute before the Eagles make their pick – unless trade-happy Eagles GM Howie Roseman makes some moves.

The Cincinnati standout is a decathlete on the perimeter, with his combination of size, strength and athleticism creating problems for defenders. The dynamic pass rusher from Ole Miss is a spectacular sack artist with elite first-step quickness and burst. The Cincinnati product will compete for playing time as a role player early in his career. Mathis is a space eater with enough athleticism and mobility to develop into more than a pocket pusher at the next level. Booth is a rock-solid cover corner with a loaded toolbox for the position. Walker is a gritty runner with a combination of balance, body control and vision that makes him effective in any style of offense. He is an aggressive bump-and-run defender with the speed, quickness and athleticism to shadow premier receivers at the line of scrimmage. Mafe soared up the charts as a dynamic edge defender with outstanding rush skills. Although he needs to refine his technique, Gordon should compete for playing time as a starter early in his career.

Analysis of every Chargers pick from Lindsey Thiry Analysis of every Bengals pick from Ben Baby The Steelers had their choice of quarterbacks with the No. 20 pick, and they went with the most NFL-ready. Though Liberty's Malik Willis likely has a higher ceiling, the Steelers opted for Kenny Pickett, who Mike Tomlin said has the highest floor. After the Philadelphia Eagles swooped one spot in front of Baltimore to take Georgia defensive tackle Jordan Davis -- a player frequently linked to the Ravens -- Baltimore drafted Hamilton even though safety was near the bottom of the team's needs.

Teams that passed on taking a receiver on Thursday night -- most notably the Chiefs and Packers -- may also look to execute a trade that will allow them to acquire one of the draft's top remaining wideouts. A whopping nine trades were executed in the first round, with two of those deals including star receivers A.J. Brown and Marquise "Hollywood" Brown.
By drafting Jackson, the 49ers addressed one of their biggest needs, adding a player who could be a bookend with Nick Bosa on the defensive line.
He shoots his hands and stacks tight ends, but he has a lean lower body and is not as effective taking on offensive tackles." In 17 games over two seasons with USC, Jackson recorded 66 total tackles and 7.5 sacks. General manager John Lynch said at the NFL Annual Meetings in March that the team doesn't see Dee Ford playing for them in 2022.
Round 1 of the 2022 NFL draft was a whirlwind, with 26 of our top 27 prospects going off the board. But there's still a lot of talent available.

Just one quarterback was selected in the first round, with Pittsburgh's Kenny Pickett staying local after being picked 20th by the Steelers. Pickett was the ...
The Vikings, meanwhile, have been unkind to the secondaries of their future. Green Bay made an aggressive move to make sure it had its choice of the second wave. They didn’t in the first round, instead taking unheralded guard Cole Strange. The Ravens took advantage of his fall and took him 45th overall. There are plenty of receivers left, and the Bears need help around their first-round quarterback from last season. Adam Kilgore:The Patriots needed to get more explosive on both offense and defense. Adam Kilgore:A big run of wide receivers as George Pickens, Alec Pierce and Skyy Moore come off the board three picks in a row to the Steelers, Colts and Chiefs. (Short, speedy and muscled, Moore is a pretty clean replacement, at least in theory, for Tyreek Hill.) The Patriots traded up to take Tyquan Thornton two picks before that run started. Bad news: You have to block Jordan Davis every day in practice. He was the third straight wideout chosen after Georgia’s George Pickens went 52nd overall to the Pittsburgh Steelers and Cincinnati’s Alec Pierce went 53rd to the Indianapolis Colts. Goedeke is now first in line to protect Brady from the interior. But he may go a long way in determining whether the Buccaneers can win the NFC and Tom Brady can get back to the Super Bowl. Ali Marpet’s surprise retirement left the Bucs in desperate need of a guard. After a dramatic first day, the 2022 NFL draft continues Friday night from Las Vegas with rounds 2 and 3.

Note: Throughout this article, positions for each pick are listed below, but individual player names are not. Fourth round: wide receiver (1), running back (1), cornerback (1), defensive end (2), safety (1), guard (1) Of course, with each franchise, there are multiple people with input into a draft pick and Pederson and Baalke were likely not the only person in their respective rooms making the pick in any given year. But with that in mind, let’s examine the data and see if there are any particular positions the decision-makers have favored not just in the first round, but through all seven rounds of past drafts. By the end of Thursday night, that question will finally be answered. The 2022 NFL Draft begins tonight, Thursday April 28 at 8 p.m., and runs through Saturday, April 30.

He's a renowned leader, winner and worker – plus a very good athlete to boot. Not fair to ask Bonitto to replace Von Miller. But the former Sooner is a plus athlete (6-3, 248, 4.5 speed) who was extremely productive, posting 16 sacks and 26½ TFLs since 2020. He caught 54 passes in four season for the Buckeyes, though a dozen of those produced TDs. 275? – before he's able to serve as a nice change of pace opposite Nick Bosa. Another gift for QB Kyler Murray, McBride will get to learn the ropes from vet Zach Ertz. He's a quick, shifty type who can operate out wide or from the slot and broke an FBS-high 26 tackles last season. A native of Nigeria who grew up in Scotland, Ojabo (6-4, 250 pounds) exploded for 11 sacks last season and will eventually bring needed juice to Baltimore's pass rush. A 6-3, 195-pounder with sub-4.5 speed offers plenty of intrigue and has even been mentioned favorably in the same breath as former Dawgs legend A.J. Green. Pickett-to-Pickens could be fun. A team captain for the Tide who can two-gap and shut down run lanes. In his lone seasons with the Spartans, the Wake Forest transfer rushed for 1,636 yards and 18 TDs. Watson won't replace Adams – who would? They make their inaugural pick of this draft by taking a solid corner, one who can play outside or in the slot and augments the league's third-ranked pass defense.
Philadelphia Eagles select former Georgia All American LB Nakobe Dean in the third round of the 2022 NFL draft.
The NFL draft continued on Friday with the second and third rounds at the Caesars Forum on the Las Vegas Strip.
With 4.4 speed, he caught 95 passes for 1,292 yards and 10 touchdowns for the Broncos last season. “A guy who can catch the ball, make people miss, run you over and somebody that plays hard. We play a lot of people down there and platoon a lot of people, so it has no bearing on the other guys.” Then he came by the theater near the Strip and, wearing a white T-shirt rather than the seemingly requisite custom-made suit, he got his hug from Commissioner Roger Goodell. On Friday, they made another deal, with the other New York team. “Just ready to work hard and be the best teammate I can be.” I definitely couldn’t be more excited to go at it with Aaron Rodgers.” It’s the fourth consecutive year a North Dakota State player has been drafted. The Falcons traded longtime starter Matt Ryan to Indianapolis in the offseason and they have Marcus Mariota as the potential starter. The Packers drafted his father, former Howard defensive back Tim Watson, in 1993. It’s the latest since 1996 for the second QB to go: Bobby Hoying went 85th that year. But they used the second slot in the second round to grab North Dakota State’s Christian Watson, who averaged 20.4 yards per reception in his career.
Iowa State running back Breece Hall, Cincinnati quarterback Desmond Ridder and Liberty quarterback Malik Willis headlined Day 2 of the NFL draft.
Sanders is my 84th-ranked prospect, so he’s a solid value here. As my 181st-ranked player, the Bengals could have waited a round (or two) for Carter. The Panthers didn’t force a quarterback and their patience pays off. Like with Rachaad White a few picks earlier, Davis-Price is a back I’d prefer to take later than the third round. He’s a versatile playmaker on both defense and special teams, as he had five interceptions in 2021 and he finished his Cougars career with nine return touchdowns. While the Browns have Myles Garrett, they need more pass-rush help, and Wright gives them a boost. Woods ran a 4.61 40-yard dash with a 37½” vertical jump and 24 bench press reps at 225 pounds. A former (high school) safety himself, he’s at his best in coverage and had three interceptions, including two returned for scores, in ’21. Ingram is my 88th-ranked prospect and a prospect that I would have preferred to target in the third round. The Cowboys lost Randy Gregory this offseason, and Williams will give their pass rush a boost. He’s a scheme-diverse corner and is a smooth and fluid mover with excellent ball skills. He is a patient runner with outstanding vision and contact balance, and he’s a reliable receiver out of the backfield.
There is no clear path for any of the rookie QBs drafted on Day 2 to start early this season.
David Ojabo: Landing with the Ravens in the second round should be viewed as the best-case scenario for Michigan linebacker David Ojabo, who suffered a torn Achilles tendon at his pro day six weeks ago. If he can get healthy and recreate his college production in the NFL, maybe he’ll prove to be a steal for the Eagles. But for now, this was a disastrous draft for Dean. The 49ers excel at developing defensive linemen, and we should expect San Francisco to have a solid plan to exploit Jackson’s athleticism as part of a deep defensive front opposite Nick Bosa. Instead, their top pick, Trevon Walker, was an afterthought after about 15 minutes on Thursday, and Friday’s second round brought the second linebacker (Chad Muma, of Wyoming, joining first rounder Devin Lloyd) and a center (Luke Fortner of Kentucky). But concerns about his health – Dean didn’t work out at all in the draft process and NFL Media reported Friday that Dean declined to have surgery to repair a shoulder injury – and size made him look like a risky pick. Maybe. But we’ll remember this draft for the fall of the quarterbacks.

After passing on a QB with the No. 6 pick, the Panthers finally appeared to be coming around to the idea of trading for Mayfield on Friday, offering a sunny change of scenery for the disgruntled Browns QB. Then they dealt a future third to move up for Ole Miss' Matt Corral, effectively ending their hunt for Sam Darnold competition. Elsewhere, the Eagles benefited from the curious injury-related slide of Pickens' fellow Bulldogs star, Nakobe Dean, securing a new face of their linebacker corps. A day after adding a new QB in Kenny Pickett, the Steelers added maybe the gem of the second round in Georgia wideout George Pickens, who could be their next best homegrown play-maker out wide. Day 2 of the 2022 NFL Draft came and went Friday, but not without some unexpected storylines, including big names like Malik Willis and Nakobe Dean lasting all the way until the third round, Baker Mayfield trade talks heating up and then cooling off, and the Packers addressing a particular position very early in the evening. Playing in Green Bay doesn't guarantee he'll be a star, but it sure doesn't hurt. Willis, meanwhile, gets a chance to sit and learn on a playoff-caliber team, then use his electric legs and arm to give Mike Vrabel's run-heavy offense more juice.

Grading teams' drafts immediately after the event is necessary in order to provide the proper evaluation of their actions in the moment.
Goedeke was getting love late in the second round, so the Bucs moved up three spots (giving up just a sixth-rounder to the Bills) to grab his upside and nastiness -- not unlike the retired Ali Marpet. White has the straight-line speed and receiving ability to make up for the loss of Ronald Jones in free agency. Adding a cornerback with one of their two Day 3 picks should be a priority. Analysis: Seattle had consecutive picks in the early second round because of compensation received from Denver in the Russell Wilson trade. In the second round, New Orleans selected a versatile defensive back in Taylor, whose size (6-foot, 199 pounds) and athleticism are nice. Analysis: The Saints did not have any third-round picks due to various trades. Analysis: I've revised my Thursday night grade for the Patriots from a D to a C after seeing how they used the draft capital obtained in their Round 1 trade with the Chiefs. (They turned the 94th overall pick into a fourth-rounder and a 2023 third-rounder). On Friday, New England made another deal with Kansas City, moving up four spots for a track-star-turned-solid-pass-catcher in Thornton, while the Chiefs picked Skyy Moore shortly thereafter. Analysis: The Raiders used their first- and second-round picks to acquire Davante Adams, so they didn't have a selection until midway through Round 3. Bell is a productive receiver who lacks great speed (much like former Brown Jarvis Landry) and I expect him to be a bargain. Analysis: They addressed their defensive need in the first round (corner Kaiir Elam) and then found Cook in Round 2. These 2022 NFL Draft quick-snap grades are an indication of whether I think a prospect's selection is of appropriate value given his college film and athleticism scores. Immediate draft grades provide a foundation for future evaluations. Waiting three years to evaluate draft classes, without accounting for how the decision was viewed at the time, usually leads to revisionist history.
The Tennessee Titans traded up for the second time in the 2022 NFL Draft, how did they do with their fourth pick in this class?
Now granted, those needs are all players who probably wouldn’t see the field in every package, but still. Tennessee is having one of the weirdest drafts that I can ever remember. Even if Willis needs time to develop, new (shadow) OC Tim Kelly has done a great job with young quarterbacks in the past.
The Falcons ended the quarterback slide in the 2022 NFL draft in the third round by selecting Desmond Ridder, the first QB taken since Kenny Pickett went to ...
Ridder joins a situation in which he could end up competing with Mariota for the starting job replacing Ryan, the best quarterback in team history. Atlanta bypassed Ridder three times in favor of other players and then, in the third round, decided the value was right to take him. The 6-foot-4, 215-pound Ridder was a four-year starter for the Bearcats and had his best season in 2021, completing 64.9% of his passes for 3,334 yards, 30 touchdowns and eight interceptions. "We get to the second round and we're sitting there waiting," Ridder said. "And we're waiting, and we're waiting and we don't get anything. Atlanta general manager Terry Fontenot said Tuesday he hoped to come out of the draft with a new signal-caller as the team has only starter Marcus Mariota and second-year pro Feleipe Franks on the roster.

The Arizona Cardinals selected San Diego State defensive end Cameron Thomas with their third-round pick (87th overall) in the 2022 NFL Draft.
The splashy run-stopping data comes via equal parts scheme and effort but might not be a true indicator of what to expect in the pros. In a perfect world, Thomas adds mass and muscle to develop into a starting 3-4 defensive end with interior rush value in nickel packages. The Cardinals are hoping to replace All-Pro Chandler Jones, who left for the Las Vegas Raiders in free agency.
The Patriots have made another trade with the Chiefs in the 2022 NFL Draft. Here's an updated list of their selections as Day 2 continues.

Marinaro was drafted by Minnesota in the 1972 NFL Draft, and he went viral at least for a minute. Dean slide all the way to the third round, where he was rescued by the Eagles with the No. 83 pick. Atlanta picked Cincinnati's Desmond Ridder with the No. 74 pick in the third round. Ole Miss' Matt Corral went with the No. 94 pick to Carolina after trade talks for Baker Mayfield appeared to come to a halt. Ojabo had 11 sacks last year at Michigan, and he lands in an ideal situation where he can rehab and pick up the system quickly when he returns. Central Michigan tackleBernhard Raimann, who was a first-round projection in several mocks, also was added in the fourth round. Dean will be paired with college teammate Jordan Davis, and that should be motivation to prove the doubters wrong. Seattle took Minnesota's Boye Mafe with the the No. 40 pick in the second round. The wide receiver run continued, and the Packers and Chiefs found value picks in the second round. The Colts closed Day 2 with Maryland safety Nick Cross, who had 66 tackles and three interceptions in 2021. The Falcons selected Ridder, the Titans took Willis and the Panthers grabbed Corral. They weren't the only players who slid down the board. The receiver run continued on Day 2.
