The scenes of Nayanthara taking care of her sister and disabled brother and how Sethupathi forms a bond with them is beautiful and probably Shivan could have explored more on that. Trouble begins when reality hits and he is forced to make a choice between his two lovers. What happens when he is forced to make a choice? A major saviour of the film is Anirudh, who makes it a passable experience with his foot tapping numbers and emotional background score. Just when we expect things to take a serious turn, Shivan waters it down with a humourous take. Though the storyline is simple, Vignesh Shivan creates a separate universe for the three main characters with interesting back stories.

Kaathu Vaakula Rendu Kaadhal review: A problematic rom-com (Hindustan Times)

Kaathu Vaakula Rendu Kaadhal movie review: Vignesh Shivn's film--which stars Vijay Sethupathi, Nayanthara and Samantha Ruth Prabhu--is funny but problematic ...

In spite of the comical treatment, it is problematic when the film expects audiences to empathize with a hero who needs two women to fix his problems because he grew up with a lot of insecurities. Vijay Sethupathi is at his effortless best on screen, and alongside both Nayanthara and Samantha, we get some lovely moments between the trio. If the film’s central idea doesn’t bother you, you’re in for a lighthearted entertainer that’s strongly aided by the lead performances by Vijay Sethupathi, Nayanthara and Samantha Ruth Prabhu, who make this work with their effortless screen presence.

Kaathuvaakula Rendu Kadhal movie review: Samantha Ruth ... (The Indian Express)

Kaathuvaakula Rendu Kadhal movie review: This film is Vignesh's wishful dream about an average Joe becoming a chick magnet.

He wants to keep the film safe for people to watch it with family. This film aims to play into the wild fantasies of a lovelorn man by subtly sexualising the leading ladies. Sumaar Moonji Kumar, meaning an average Joe, is the name of the character played by Vijay Sethupathi in Idharkuthane Aasaipattai Balakumara (2013). He had played the role of a stalker in the movie. By simply stepping outside and gazing at the sky, the rain comes to a complete stop. Vignesh sort of creates the Rambo-is-the-last-man-alive-in-the-world situation. It takes a lot of big-heartedness to buy into the premise of this film.
