West Ham United vs Eintracht Frankfurt betting preview (Football.London)

The Inside Track brings you the best in betting tips as tipster Tom Phillips looks ahead to West Ham's Europa League semi-final clash with Bundesliga side ...

This will be the third time these two sides would have met in their history and the first time in 46 years since they met in the European Cup Winners Cup back in 1976 which West Ham won 4-3 on aggregate including a 3-1 at home. Jarrod Bowen and Declan Rice have certainly put in the performances in this season but have especially stepped up when it matters in Europe too. West Ham United prepare for their first European semi-final in over 40 years as they welcome Eintracht Frankfurt to the London Stadium in the first-leg.

Football Tips: Thommo's best bets for Thursday's Europa clashes (Paddy Power News)

Paddy Power ambassador Phil Thompson never takes a day off and he's back to take a look at Thursday's big games from the Europa League and Europa Conference.

If you want a goal scorer in this one, James Maddison to Score Anytime. He’s in really good form at the moment. I’m going for RB Leipzig to Win and Both Teams to Score. I know the away goals don’t count for double anymore but I think Rangers will have something to take home with them. I think RB Leipzig are a good team but Rangers have excelled in this competition.

Europa League semifinals: British and German sides remain (Playing for 90)

The Europa League semifinals will see British sides take on German sides as West Ham take on Eintracht Frankfurt and RB Leipzig face Rangers.

Furthermore, if the winner finishes in a Europa League slot via their league (and/or win their domestic cup), the country they come from will have one less team in Europe’s second tier competition than the initial two. They have a lot more on the line if they are to get back into Europe next season, so they will have to go all out to assure themselves continental football. They have the best European record (from the group stage on) of the teams left, still having yet to lose so far. Frankfurt has another lengthy Europa League campaign to consider a success in what has otherwise been an underwhelming season. They are 180 minutes away from a return to the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán for the final. The German side may have more on the line domestically as they aim to secure a top four place, but I think they will move on. After a slow start, wins against Club Brugge and Manchester City in their final matches allowed them to finish third, dropping to the Europa League knockout round. Rangers are heading into Thursday night’s first leg on the back of a four-game winning streak, including their extra time defeat of Sporting Braga in the quarterfinals. I expect them to come out with a point to prove on Thursday night, which will be difficult to overcome from a Rangers perspective. The UEFA Europa League semifinals are upon us, with a pair of British-based sides and two German teams remaining in this season’s competition. In between the Rangers ties, Tedesco’s men will go to Borussia Park to face Monchengladbach. One of the new kids on the block against a household name with trophies aplenty.

West Ham v Eintracht Frankfurt LIVE commentary and team news ... (talkSPORT.com)

West Ham are involved in their first European semi-final since 1976 as they host Eintracht Frankfurt this week. The Hammers entertain the German outfit.

- Eintracht Frankfurt have kept just one clean sheet across their last 18 Europa League matches, conceding in each of the last eight in a row. Two of those goals were assisted by Aaron Cresswell from dead ball situations – only Rangers full-back James Tavernier has assisted as many goals from such situations this season. - West Ham and Eintracht Frankfurt have been matched up for the second time in European competition, with West Ham previously eliminating the German side at the semi-final stage of the Cup Winners’ Cup in 1975-76. “But there are three games to go so we take care of Thursday first. It would be nice to go out on a high.” - West Ham have scored the most goals via crosses (five) as well as the joint-most headed goals (five) of any side in the Europa League this season.

They are forced to win the competition in order to play in Europe next season. They are also favorites to win the first leg on home soil being priced at -105 with Bet365. Wolves are sitting just three points behind them in the standings but they have a game in hand on them. They kept two clean sheets in their previous two games against Everton and Man United and we don’t expect them to concede on Wednesday. Jordan Henderson and Luis Diaz should be back in the starting lineup after being left on the bench against Everton. They’re second in the Premier League just one point behind Man City, the League Cup already in the bag, as well as an FA Cup final appearance to come against Chelsea, there is a chance to see them win the quadruple. After knocking out Juventus in the last 16 and beating Bayern Munich in the quarter-finals, Unai Emery will find it really hard to go against Jurgen Klopp and surprise him.

Centre-back Evan Ndicka is also suspended for the first leg after getting sent off against Barcelona and he will be a huge miss. If you can work around their press and pass the ball quickly then you're going to have a chance. Red Bull's involvement with Leipzig is a big concern and they hate it, so I think a lot of Germans will be hoping that Rangers reach the final. If they can win 2-0 or 3-0 in the first leg then that'll set them up nicely for the decisive second leg. And the other man to watch is centre-back Martin Hinteregger. He's a fan-favourite; they call themselves the 'Hinty Army'! Every time he wins a tackle or clears the ball away, you can hear those 'Hinty, Hinty' calls from the stands. He has no release clause at the moment so I think he’d cost around £80m (€95m) this summer. It's also loud at the Leipzig stadium, but you cannot compare it to Frankfurt or Rangers. He was also the man-of-the-match against Barcelona - he's the one to watch. PH: Frankfurt are amazing but Leipzig is a bit different. But it's difficult to judge how important the Europa League is for them. It means they're putting all of their eggs into the Europa League basket. The league is done for them.

Frankfurt reached the semifinals that year before losing to Chelsea on penalties. They are a very physically strong team that, if they put their mind to it, can beat any opponent. It was outclassed at the San Siro by a superior team who is heavily fancied to retain its league title but the 3-1 loss failed to end the positive vibes in Rome ahead of Thursday's trip to Leicester for the first leg of its European Conference League semi. Roma has won just one of its 22 matches played in England, at Anfield way back in 2001 with Fabio Cappello at the helm for a 2-1 aggregate UEFA Cup defeat to Liverpool, and have taken some heavy beatings from Premier League sides down the years. Rangers have made it to the last four for the first time since 2007-08 when the Glasgow side finished as runner-up in the Europa League, then known as the UEFA Cup. Leipzig stormed to the last four on the back of a superb 3-1 aggregate win over Italian side Atalanta, thanks to a brace by Christopher Nkunku in the quarterfinal second leg, which sealed a 2-0 victory. Its fans are desperate to reach the final in Seville on May 18 for the chance of silverware. Around 30,000 Eintracht fans managed to get tickets for the second leg of their quarterfinal at Camp Nou, roaring the German club to a stunning 3-2 win at Barcelona to seal a 4-3 aggregate victory. Visiting Frankfurt fans have been allocated 5,000 tickets for the game at West Ham's London Stadium, which has a capacity of 60,000, but the German club expects tens of thousands of fans to make the journey. "Our fans like to travel and support their team abroad – that's why we brought 15,000 to Inter Milan" for the last-16 tie in 2019. Frankfurt expects thousands of German fans to travel again in the hope of inspiring another away victory, like the shock win at Barcelona.

With so much attacking quality in the West Ham side, the 29-year-old could easily find his name in the book again. With so much riding on this fixture, West Ham need their most influential players to step up and Bowen can exploit an Eintracht side who have not kept a clean sheet in five matches. However, if the likes of Jarod Bowen, Declan Rice and Michail Antonio are firing on all cylinders, the Hammers should have enough about them to take a slender advantage into next week’s second leg.

They’re in here all day with me, but I’ve always said that if the staff want to come to work for me, they need to know what I expect. We'd loved to have said, after coming away from Lyon, let’s bask in that glory for a few weeks or months, but we can't - we had to quickly get onto the next game. We want to try and be in the final, but we certainly won’t take any of it for granted. To beat Barcelona over two games was an incredible achievement, especially when they drew the first leg and you think it might be difficult going to the Nou Camp, but they did a great job and it shows Frankfurt's qualities. I don't think I've had loads of time to sit back and celebrate. Suddenly, we had started to have a group of international players as well, who had more experience than some other players who maybe hadn’t been at that level yet. We'll have an incredible atmosphere in Frankfurt. I’ve been there a few times to watch games over the years, so I know how difficult that'll be, but we have to use that and London Stadium to our advantage. People who know West Ham far better than I do will tell you that to get to the semi-final of a European competition and give ourselves a real chance of getting to a final is something really special. I think it's really special that two teams with a history – maybe not a recent history in Europe – are back together. If you'd have said to us in May last year “you’re going to be in the semi-finals of the Europa League, with the chance of getting to the final,” I think we’d have all said, “you're joking.” We’re in a really good place and I think we’re worthy of it. Sometimes it doesn’t always go right when you’re a manager, and for the majority of managers it’s very difficult, but I always felt that if I could get it going here, I could get a team challenging.

West Ham dare to dream of European glory as Frankfurt come to town (The Guardian)

This is a chance for the class of 2022 to write a new story. It was one of those wild East End nights, an occasion that has gone down in claret and blue folklore, and inevitably there have been plenty of references to it during the buildup to one of the biggest games in the club’s history. “A group of players that have got no egos and work for each other. West Ham fans of a certain vintage get misty-eyed when they remember the last time they saw their side in a major European semi-final.
