In Moldova, Ukrainian refugee describes her life after fleeing Odesa (Business Insider)

Ukrainian refugees in Moldova are dealing with rising costs and some resentment. But most have not lost their hope that the war will end soon.

It's why she's working, finding a job two weeks after her arrival, waiting half a day in line at the immigration office for the identification number she needs to do so legally. "I wanted to go back for Easter," Botya said, but she had to work. She started working at the cafe a day after her interview. Back in the port city where she was born, Botya was in college, studying biology. Still, it beats hanging out in the apartment and worrying about her grandparents and mother who are still in Odesa, unwilling to abandon their home (they couldn't come, anyway: "There would be no place for them to sleep." Taking refuge in the capital of Moldova, she now lives in a tiny two-bedroom apartment with her father, her sister, and her sister's husband and child.

Ukraine invasion: 'stage two' of Russia's war is ringing alarm bells in ... (The Conversation UK)

As Russia prepares to take more Ukrainian territory, Moldova could be next on Putin's target list.

Stopping Putin in Ukraine is the only realistic way to avoid a tragedy of even greater proportions and the spread of the conflict to a second country. The west’s program of sanctions need to be expanded – especially when it comes to Russian oil and gas. The supply of military equipment needs to be stepped up to enable Ukraine to resist and eventually push back Russian invaders. From the ultimatum for Kyiv’s unconditional surrender in February 2022, to demands that Ukraine recognise the independence of the DPR, LPR and the annexation of Crimea the following month, it now appears that a negotiated agreement on Russian terms is less and less likely. There is very little enthusiasm in Transnistria for being drawn into Russian aggression against Ukraine. But there is also limited ability to resist Moscow’s ambitions if Russian forces advanced all the way there. Moscow’s aim to occupy all of southern Ukraine is the logical conclusion of this strategy.

No injuries were immediately reported in the alleged attack, which took place on the Orthodox Easter Monday holiday in the city of Tiraspol when the building would presumably be more empty than usual. Russian officials have rejected such charges. “The aim of today’s incident is to create pretexts for straining the security situation in the Transnistrian region, which is not controlled by the constitutional authorities,” the Moldovan Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

Officials say unknown assailants attacked the state security ministry in Tiraspol using grenade launchers.
