Man City vs Brighton highlights and reaction from Premier League ... (Manchester Evening News)

Manchester City beat Brighton and Hove Albion in a crucial Premier League fixture at the Etihad Stadium.

You can see why Brighton have picked up good wins at Tottenham and Arsenal in their last two games though - they're compact, have a good structure and have a plan on the break. Brighton have nothing to lose and they've been nice and compact, everyone behind the ball. City are starting to turn the screw and you wouldn't bet against them from adding to their lead. City are running riot out there and that man Foden is right at the centre of it. It's not the usual City we're used to seeing. Ruben Dias is on, with John Stones moving to right-back and Joao Cancelo on the left. As the clock ticks past 80 minutes it would be impossible to deny City have completely deserved this one-sided victory. We had to score the first goal to open up the game. The only way is to have the players fit. With six matches to play, City have restored their one-point advantage at the summit. There was a bit of tension around in the first half, Brighton made it difficult for them and they needed that bit of luck to break the deadlock. City got a bit of luck with a couple of their goals so it's job done.

Manchester City vs Brighton, live! Score, updates, how to watch ... (NBC Sports)

Manchester City hopes their time outside the top of the Premier League table will be limited to 24 hours and the obstacle to that desire is Brighton.

28′ — BIG SAVE!! Robert Sanchez gets high to get a paw on Bernado Silva’s 17-yard strike, but he still has work to do in shepherding Phil Foden from turning and firing the rebound on goal. But wait, the Brighton high press leads to a corner kick… But the chances on the counter are not coming, as City has shepherded the Seagulls wide of the formation. 38′ — City remains frustrated by constant grabbing from the Brighton team, which is packed-in and daring the referees to call every single tug. HT — What’s City going to do at the break? 66′ — GOOOOOOAAAALL!!!! Sometimes you need to get a bounce, and Man City have now gotten two.

Man City are back at home on Saturday when they host Watford at the Etihad; kick-off 3pm. "In the end, the quality of opponent means you are going to concede. We have to learn from it." "We defended really well but we didn't play as well as I think we can. We didn't concede a lot and we were incredibly aggressive. In this kind of mood, there aren't many better in world football than the City star. Sometimes we can win, we can lose, but we give everything." He has now been directly involved in six goals in his last five Premier League games. And if we win all our games we will be champions. "Some people aren't pleased when we lose but I am always pleased with my players. You could easily make the argument that he is currently the best midfielder on the planet, perhaps even the best player in the world. "It is one of the happiest days as next season we will be in the Champions League," said Guardiola. "People take it for granted but we have to be in the Champions League. When it happens mathematically it's because we have done really well. City will need everyone -- particularly key players like De Bruyne and Dias -- if they are going to hold off Liverpool and safely negotiate these next six games while also trying to win the Champions League for the first time in their history. If we don't win all the games, Liverpool will be champions. They might need a bit more here on Saturday, particularly if Watford are as organised and resilient as Brighton. This time City get to put the pressure on Liverpool with Jurgen Klopp's side not in action until 24 hours later against Everton at Anfield. "It happened three years ago, we won 14 in a row to be champions. When Bernardo Silva scored the third on 82 minutes, the home supporters finally got up the courage to chant "champions, champions, champions."

Man City beat a resolute Brighton side 3-0 to move back to the top of the Premier League table.

16’ – BIG CHANCE: Sanchez tries to play out from the back and Mahrez intercepts it and has time on the ball in front of goal but he doesn't pass or shoot. The goal he created was crucial in giving his team control of the match and stopping panic setting in. The eyes of the world were on Guardiola's men and Liverpool fans became Brighton supporters for the evening. A big slice of luck. However, once City got one goal the result was never in doubt. City are one point ahead, could that be all it takes to seperate them.

Watch the best of the action from Manchester City's 3-0 win over Brighton and Hove Albion in the Premier League.

Bernardo completed the scoring eight minutes from time, picking out the bottom corner with a wonderful curling effort from the edge of the area after City punished the visitors for trying to play out from the back. Foden doubled the lead minutes later with a 20-yard drive that flicked off the leg of Enock Mwepu and wrongfooted Robert Sanchez in the Brighton goal. Pep Guardiola’s side returned to the top of the table with a deserved victory at the Etihad Stadium, where Riyad Mahrez, Phil Foden and Bernardo Silva were on target as the boss claimed his 250th win in charge of the Club.
