Flooded catchments and sewage spills have forced the closure of harvesting areas across the state.

He says the number of sewer failures and leaks has increased which is adding further strain for farmers. “We have really been on the heavy foot. Contaminated oysters and other shellfish can be extremely dangerous if consumed when contaminated. And there’s also Covid. It has been a horrible three years.” We had two years in a row of floods and then before that we had the bushfires. “The peak period is usually from November through to Easter. There’s usually a bit of a wet period, but we’ve been closed for pretty almost the whole season.”

Queen expected to miss Easter Sunday service (The Guardian)

News follows announcement last week that monarch, 95, would not attend Thursday's Maundy church service.

Thursday is the fifth time the Queen has not attended the Maundy service during her 70-year reign. In 1964 the birth of the Earl of Wessex in March meant the Queen’s role was fulfilled by her aunt, Princess Mary, and in 1970, the Queen Mother distributed the Maundy money on behalf of the Queen who was on tour in New Zealand. The Queen is understood to be in good health but has some mobility problems.

Good Friday 2022: Date, history, significance of Christians' Easter ... (Hindustan Times)

Good Friday 2022: Know all about what is 'good' in Good Friday when it is a day of mourning for Christians, its date this year along with its history, ...

Good Friday is a day of mourning, and people keep fasts and pray to the Lord. It is a day to remind oneself of Jesus Christ’s sacrifices. The term ‘Good’ is a contradiction to the events of this day, however, people believe that the term is associated with the words ‘pious or holy’ and Good Friday is followed by Easter Sunday, the day on which Jesus was resurrected from death. Catholics do not eat meat on Good Friday but can eat fish instead and it is also customary to eat warm hot cross buns. Good Friday aka Holy Friday also marks the end of Lent which is a 40-day fasting period for Christians. Good Friday falls on the sixth day of Holy weeks which lead to Easter. It is said that the aforementioned crucifixion took place around AD 30 or AD 33. Others say that it is a modification of ‘God Friday’ and that the term actually came from the words God's Friday.

What is Easter Day and why is it celebrated? (Lifestyle Asia)

Marking Jesus Christ's ressurection on Easter Sunday, the holidays are celebrated with Easter eggs, church visits and delicious food.

According to legends, Easter rabbits are believed to lay the eggs and decorate them secretly. With elements of spring and summer being added to the concept, Easter celebration also signifies fruitfulness, rebirth and new beginnings. Earlier in the West, Christ’s resurrection was celebrated on the first day of the week— Sunday. Since then, Easter has been celebrated on the first Sunday after the 14th day of the Nisan month. The Saturday after the Good Friday is also considered as ‘Holy Saturday’ by many and people attend church services called the Easter Vigil. It is believed that after three days angels rolled the stone and Jesus Christ resurrected from the grave and visited his disciples. Easter Sunday marks the resurrection of Jesus Christ after being crucified.

Opinion: Easter could not have come at a better time (desmoinesregister.com)

The FAMiLY Leader executive vice president: This need for shalom, for rest from sin and a restoration of wholeness … this is what Easter is all about.

And to those who have known the Prince of Peace, share this message of hope with others, as we anxiously wait for His return. Christians are to be instruments of peace by sacrificially laying down their lives for the needs of others, whether that be a neighbor who is going through a hard season or a fellow human going through the horrors of war. This is what Easter was for. And where there is peace, there is rest. This Easter, if you have not yet put your hope in Christ, turn to the One who brings shalom. And in that completeness, there was harmony and peace. Sin is a powerful, peace-breaking, restless, force that disrupts us all, and in its wake, we desperately yearn for shalom. That is why God then rested on the seventh day — there was a good, whole, completeness in what He had done. Shalom is a beautiful Hebrew word that does not translate well to English. The English Bible hardly gives it justice, often translated merely as “peace.” But shalom is so much more. This is what Easter was for. Creation was in shalom. As Christians around the world look to celebrate Easter, this year’s holiday brings great challenges for many.

Is Easter a 'proper' special occasion, or is it too commercialised? (YouGov US)

Easter is still seen as true to its roots across the West, although Britons and French people in particular are cynical. Easter marks the remembrance of Jesus Christ's resurrection, after sacrificing himself for the sins of mankind.

Danes are second most likely to feel Easter as an occasion that is still celebrated for good cause (73%) rather than because of commercial pressure. A new YouGov survey in 12 countries shows that people in each country still tend to think that Easter is celebrated for the right reasons, for now at least. But are people marking the occasion in its own right, or because they are being bombarded by companies telling them to celebrate the season through the medium of buying things?

"The idea of death and resurrection is something that's much more complicated." Are Easter celebrations different in the United States vs. That's when people started the custom of decorating eggs," Nadieszda said. "After seven weeks of not eating meat or dairy, you feel like Superman." There is no definitive origin of the symbolism, but one of the earliest origins comes from pagan tradition when it symbolized fertility. "Easter basically means the triumph over death." For some, the Easter Vigil begins after sunset on Saturday night or early Sunday morning into the sunrise of Easter. With more readings, songs and rituals, mass can be anywhere from two to three hours. Since the equinox usually occurs on March 20-21, Easter can fall on any Sunday from March 22 to April 25. So people would prepare their eggs for when they could finally eat them. Eggs have a similar message. But when and how the holiday would be observed varied across different regions. "Fertility means new life.

Why do we have Easter eggs? Tradition behind chocolate eggs and ... (iNews)

The tradition of Easter eggs originated in a Pagan springtime celebration.

Decide whether you want to keep your eggs once they’ve been dyed, or if you’re okay with discarding them. Rolling Easter eggs is a favoured activity, and for some Christians the Easter egg roll is a symbolic re-enactment of rolling the stone away from Christ’s tomb. - Blow into one end of the egg to get the inside out through the other end of the egg Traditionally, people would dye their eggs the colour red, to represent the blood of Christ, with the hard shell of the egg symbolising the sealed tomb and the cracking of the shell representing his resurrection from the dead. However over time, Christians caught on to the symbolism and took the eggs and their shells to represent Jesus emerging from his tomb on Easter Sunday. The tradition of Easter eggs originated in a Pagan springtime celebration.

May the celebration of Easter this year be one that calls for the unity of one and all. After the Crucifixion, the Easter Celebration becomes relevant as it confirms the way of life of Jesus which offers us as the hope for a new life here and now. But Christ on his way to the Cross guides us to a life of fulfilment and freedom.

Recent archaeological research appears to confirm the worship of Eostre in parts of England and Germany, with the hare as her main symbol. The idea that the witches of winter should be banished at Easter is a common European folk motif appearing in several festivities and rituals. One tradition, known as the “ Hare Pie Scramble,” was held at Hallaton, a village in Leicestershire, England. It involved eating a pie made with hare meat and people “scrambling” for a slice. Caesar would likely have known that in the classical Greek tradition, hares were sacred to Aphrodite, the goddess of love. The Easter bunny is a much-celebrated character in American Easter celebrations. The symbolism of the hare has had many tantalizing ritual and religious roles down through the years.
