A source close to production tells Variety that JoJo Siwa not being invited to the Kids' Choice Awards was an "honest mistake."
A year ago today I posted this picture and shared with the world that I was gay,” she wrote in an Instagram post. “This had nothing to do with her as a person,” the source said. Shortly after Siwa’s Instagram, chatter on Twitter questioned if Nickelodeon suddenly had an issue with her becoming a vocal LGBTQ advocate after she came out in 2021.
Celebrities are showering JoJo Siwa with love after the 18-year-old star said she wasn't invited to the Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards.
Last September, Siwa criticized Nickelodeon in a series of tweets about her tour, E! News reported at the time. “My movie musical was just released (with 6 new original songs)… Nickelodeon told me today that I’m not allowed to perform/add any of the songs from the film into my show. “There is no reason that this music should not be included. Siwa was nominated for the favorite social music star award, but ended up losing to Dixie D'Amelio. These are MY songs, MY voice, MY writing. “Keep rocking that!!”
The only year that @itsjojosiwa didn't get invited to the kids choice awards is when she comes out and cuts her hair?????? Sus @Nickelodeon.”
Retweeting another shortly after, JoJo showed her approval of a follower who wrote: “Obsessed with the teenage girl celebrities who don’t take shit from their network of employment and refuse to be anything but themselves. @itsjojosiwa coming out and cutting her hair doesn’t change who she is [and] what she has [done] for your company…do better @Nickelodeon,” another read. “I go out on tour in January. My movie musical was just released (with 6 new original songs)… Nickelodeon told me today that I’m not allowed to perform/add any of the songs from the film into my show. She captioned the video, “I don’t want anyone to think it was my choice not to go…. I'm not sure why, but I just didn't get an invite,” she said in a clip posted to her Instagram page. One user commented, “Your brand is with Nickelodeon and you were nominated???
"I'm not sure why, but I just didn't get an invite," the singer said in an Instagram video addressing her absence from the 2022 award show.
According to The Daily Beast, Siwa made a follow-up post in her Instagram story after learning that her song, "One Chance" was used during the show. Siwa's absence comes as somewhat of a surprise, given that the singer has been closely tied with the network since signing a deal with them back in 2017. Does this seem fair???"

Fans have accused Nickelodeon of excluding JoJo Siwa from the Kids' Choice Awards after she came out as a member of the LGBTQ+ community.
As noted by Siwa’s supporters, the 2022 Kids’ Choice Awards aired on Nickelodeon after the “J Team” star came forward as a member of the LGBTQ+ community in January 2021. “I think this is the first time that I’ve felt so personally happy. Siwa was nominated for favorite social music star at the 2022 Kids’ Choice Awards. @itsjojosiwa and @oliviarodrigo y’all are my hero’s.” “The only year that @itsjojosiwa didn’t get invited to the kids choice awards is when she comes out and cuts her hair??????” one person wrote in a tweet reposted by Siwa. “Sus @nickelodeon.” “A lot of you have been asking me why I’m not at the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards tonight, and the answer is very simple: I wasn’t invited,” Siwa explained in a short video.
JoJo Siwa said on Instagram she wasn't invited to the Kids' Choice Awards this year, where she was nominated for Favorite Social Music Star.
Siwa has had her share of drama with Nick, previously claiming the network wouldn’t let her perform songs from her 2021 movie-musical, The J Team, on tour. It could have been the public debut of her new, ponytail-less look. Jersey Shore’s Snooki commented that she was “gonna write a note” and tagged @Nickelodeon. And 90210’s Brian Austin Green, Siwa’s Dancing With the Stars castmate, wrote, “Fuck the kids choice awards 😂 you are too good for them.” Remember, we’re talking about an awards show that involves slime!
JoJo Siwa claimed on social media that she was not invited by Nickelodeon to the 2022 Kids' Choice Awards, despite being a nominee at this year's show.
JoJo retweeted one fan's tweet that reads: "The only year that @itsjojosiwa didn’t get invited to the kids choice awards is when she comes out and cuts her hair?????? Fans had already begun to speculate about JoJo’s absence, and her video only fueled the discourse. I'm not sure why, but I just didn't get an invite," JoJo says in the video while rocking her brand new pixie cut.
