Kansas survives North Carolina in wild NCAA Tournament title ... (USA TODAY)

The Jayhawks won their fourth national championship and second under coach Bill Self, recovering in the second half to beat North Carolina.

A seemingly costly turnover with four seconds left by Kansas' Dajuan Harris gave the Tar Heels the ball back with a chance to tie, but UNC's Caleb Love couldn't convert with an airballed three-pointer. If the Tar Heels (29-10) attempted a knockout blow with their first-half offensive clinic, Kansas (34-6) had a counter-punch all second half in a down-to-the-wire finish. The comeback was one of the biggest ever in a national title game.

No NCAA Final Four programs in carry-on when flying home from ... (Raleigh News & Observer)

If flying from New Orleans from the men's college basketball championship game, do not put official game programs in your carry-on bag on the airplane.

Laytham said the scanners have trouble “seeing through” the programs, which means airport security will likely want to open travelers’ bags and inspect them, slowing the security process down. The graphic included with the message, which was the same for the original and new tweets, said travelers should not carry “ANY” NCAA Final Four program in their carry-on baggage, but it was somewhat unclear whether that included programs from the men’s games. It also wasn’t clear from the original tweet’s wording whether the information applied to the programs for the Women’s Final Four tournament in Minneapolis or the Men’s Final Four in New Orleans — or both.

The 2022 NCAA tournament ended in thrilling fashion on Monday night, with Kansas overcoming a 15-point halftime deficit en route to a 72-69 victory over ...

That was followed by No. 2 Auburn and No. 3 Tennessee both losing in the second round, blowing up plenty of brackets along the way.All year, teams struggled to win away from home in the SEC, and sure enough that narrative held true during March Madness. We've never seen a Cinderella run quite like that of the Saint Peter's Peacocks. From the onset of their opening game against No. 2 seed Kentucky, they seemed completely unfazed by facing off against one of the sport's blue bloods, and their relentless defensive intensity that earned them the No. 25 spot in KenPom's adjusted defensive efficiency this year proved to be their golden ticket. After shocking the Wildcats in overtime, they beat No. 7 seed Murray State by 10 points to advance to the Sweet 16 and then became the first No. 15 seed to ever reach the Elite Eight when they squeaked out a 67-64 win against No. 3 seed Purdue. The Cinderella run came to an end with a 20-point loss to North Carolina in the Elite Eight, but their run won't soon be forgotten.Three-point shooter Doug Edert and his glorious mustache got an NIL deal from Buffalo Wild Wings, head coach Shaheen Holloway landed the head coaching job at his alma mater Seton Hall, and now everyone knows that Saint Peter's University is in New Jersey. No one wants to see a blowout in the Final Four. When the NCAA tournament field is trimmed down to four teams, college basketball fans want a back-and-forth battle for a spot in the national title game. The Villanova Wildcats were simply overmatched by No. 1 seed Kansas. In a game that had a four-point spread, the Jayhawks led wire to wire, scoring the first 10 points and building a 26-11 lead midway through the first half.Ochai Agbaji (21 points, 6/7 3PT) finally looked like a first-team All-American and David McCormack (25 points, 10/12 FG) was a man among boys in the paint as Kansas cruised to a 81-65 victory and punched its ticket to the championship game.Tip of the cap to Villanova fifth-year senior guard Collin Gillespie, who scored a team-high 17 points in his final college game. He followed that up with 12 points against No. 1 seed Arizona in the opening round, and after entering the transfer portal, he has landed at Ohio State where he will likely step into a starting role with the Buckeyes. No stranger to the transfer portal himself, Allen began his college career at West Virginia before spending time at Western Nebraska Community College, Nebraska and finally New Mexico State. The 6'6" junior won WAC Player of the Year behind 19.6 points, 6.7 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game for a 27-7 Aggies team.He scored 37 points in an upset win over No. 5 seed UConn in the opening round to make his mark on the 2022 tournament, and he added 12 points, four rebounds and one steal in the team's second-round loss to Arkansas. He has already declared for the 2022 NBA draft. The Big Ten crashed and burned in the 2021 NCAA tournament, with No. 2 seed Ohio State and No. 4 seed Purdue both losing in the opening round, while No. 1 seed Illinois and No. 2 seed Iowa failed to survive their second-round opponent. It was more of the same this year.Despite leading all conferences with nine NCAA tournament bids, only No. 3 seed Purdue and No. 11 seed Michigan managed to reach the Sweet 16, and they were both promptly sent packing before the field was whittled to the Elite Eight. However, the bigger black eye this year might belong to the SEC.While No. 4 seed Arkansas did reach the Elite Eight, No. 2 seed Kentucky, No. 6 seed LSU and No. 6 seed Alabama were all upset in the first round. North Carolina in the Final Four for the first time in the history of the rivalry. There was simply no way the game was going to live up to the hype. And then it did.The game saw 18 lead changes, neither team led by more than seven points at any time, and it wasn't until Caleb Love hit a dagger three to put North Carolina up 78-74 with 28 seconds to play that it finally started to become clear who was going to win the game.Even then, it took Love knocking down three of four free throws to seal the win, as the sophomore guard finished with a game-high 28 points on 11-of-20 shooting, tallying 22 of his points during the second half.It may not have been the storybook ending that Duke fans had in mind for legendary coach Mike Krzyzewski as he rides off into retirement, but it was the pinnacle of college basketball's biggest rivalry, and it will be the game that people remember from this tournament years from now.The first half of Monday's national championship game was all North Carolina. The Tar Heels ripped off a 26-7 run to close out the first half and take a 40-25 lead into the break, tallying 18 second-chance points and dominating on the board with a 27-18 advantage.Meanwhile, Kansas shot a miserable 6-of-21 in the paint as it settled for bad looks early in the shot clock time and again while trying to force the tempo. The 15-point lead that North Carolina built was tied for the fourth-largest halftime lead in championship game history, but it took a little over five minutes for the Jayhawks to trim that deficit to six points coming out of the break, and a corner three-pointer from Remy Martin with 10:23 to play put the Jayhawks up 53-50 as the momentum had completely shifted.Suddenly it was North Carolina settling for bad looks and missing inside, while Kansas patiently set up its offense and found easy baskets time and again. The same Tar Heels that coughed up a 25-point lead against Baylor—which would have tied the NCAA tournament record for the largest blown lead had they lost—but survived to win in overtime couldn't weather the storm a second time, and now they own the largest blown lead in title game history. All tournament long as we rolled out the "Winners and Losers" articles, the go-to comment for snarky readers was always something along the lines of the winners are the teams that won and the losers are the teams that lost.So here you go, folks. The Kansas Jayhawks are the biggest winners in the 2022 NCAA tournament because they won the 2022 NCAA tournament, and they did it with a record-setting comeback and a total team effort.Sixth man Remy Martin was the star in the early going with a 20-point game against Creighton in the second round and a 23-point showing against Providence in the Sweet 16. North Carolina matchup in the Final Four will likely be the game everyone remembers from the 2022 NCAA tournament, but the best game of this year's tournament happened during the First Four in Dayton, Ohio.In the final play-in game on Wednesday night, Rutgers and Notre Dame faced off for the chance at an opening-round matchup with No. 6 seed Alabama. It took two overtimes to decide a winner, with Notre Dame's Paul Atkinson Jr. putting in the game-winning putback with two seconds left to give the Fighting Irish an 89-87 victory.Rutgers had a chance to win it at the end of regulation, there were 10 points scored in the final minute of the first overtime, and Ron Harper Jr. hit a huge game-tying three-pointer with 23 seconds to go in the second overtime before Notre Dame came away with the victory. Biggest Winners and Losers of the 2022 NCAA Men's Basketball TournamentBiggest Winners and Losers of the 2022 NCAA Men's Basketball TournamentThe 2022 NCAA tournament ended in thrilling fashion on Monday night, with Kansas overcoming a 15-point halftime deficit en route to a 72-69 victory over North Carolina. From an opening weekend filled with upsets to No. 15 seed Saint Peter's unlikely Cinderella run to the Elite Eight, it was a March Madness to remember. Now it's time to slap a bow on this year's festivities with one final round of winners and losers, spanning the entirety of this year's tournament, from the First Four games on March 15 and 16 through the national championship game. It's been a wild ride. The consensus remains that Smith will be a top-three pick in the 2022 NBA draft, alongside Duke's Paolo Banchero and Gonzaga's Chet Holmgren, but he might have locked up the No. 1 spot with a strong March Madness run.Instead, his college career likely ends with a sour taste in his mouth as the Tigers failed to survive the opening weekend.Every year, there are at least a couple of mid-major stars who take full advantage of the bright lights and put on a show during March Madness. This year, it was Wright State guard Tanner Holden and New Mexico State forward Teddy Allen. An All-Horizon League selection, Holden averaged 20.1 points and 7.1 rebounds per game during his junior season for a Wright State team that snuck into the NCAA tournament as the No. 4 seed in the Horizon League tournament. He outplayed Bryant's Peter Kiss, the nation's leading scorer, in one of the First Four games when he poured in 37 points on 11-of-15 shooting. Thanks for reading along with us!Loser: The Quest for the Perfect BracketWhen the dust settled on a wild opening day of the 2022 NCAA tournament that saw No. 15 Saint Peter's upset No. 2 Kentucky, along with upset wins by No. 12 seeds New Mexico State (over UConn) and Richmond (over Iowa), there were only 192 perfect brackets remaining across NCAA.com, ESPN, CBS and Yahoo bracket pools.By the time No. 11 seed Iowa State upset No. 6 LSU on Friday night, that number was officially whittled to zero.It was the second year in a row no bracket survived the opening round, and as the gap continues to close between blue bloods and mid-major upstarts, it becomes less and less likely we'll ever see someone hit the perfect bracket. We'll all be filled with that same hope when the first game tips off on Thursday morning next year, though, and that's the beauty of March Madness.Winner: A Double-Overtime Thriller in the First FourThe Duke vs. Jalen Wilson added 15 points and Dajuan Harris Jr. played his usual stellar defense. In the end, it was Big 12 Player of the Year and first-team All-American Ochai Agbaji who took home NCAA tournament Most Outstanding Player honors, with his 21-point showing against Villanova on 6-of-7 from beyond the arc as his signature performance.Congratulations to the 2021-22 Kansas Jayhawks on navigating a wild tournament field to walk away as national champions! The Big East Player of the Year had to watch from the sidelines with an injury last March after the 2020 tournament was canceled, so it was nice to see him enjoy one last NCAA tournament run.Winner: The Biggest Rivalry on the Biggest StageDuke vs. He knocked down four three-pointers on Monday night and finished with 14 points in 21 minutes.Center David McCormack had a season-high 25 points on 10-of-12 shooting against Villanova in the Final Four, and he came up big again with 15 points and 10 rebounds while overcoming some early foul trouble.Christian Braun struggled in the first half but came out aggressive to start the second half to help spark the comeback. The Fighting Irish went on to upset Alabama in the opening round before falling to Texas Tech in the second round, proving they belonged in the field from the start.Loser: A Dud from Potential No. 1 Overall Pick Jabari SmithJabari Smith has all the tools to be a star at the NBA level, with an athletic 6'10" frame, an offensive game that stretches to the perimeter where he shot 42.0 percent from three-point range, and the length to be an impact player on the defensive end. However, his standout freshman season ended with a thud when he was held to 10 points on 3-of-16 shooting in the Tigers' second-round loss to No. 10 seed Miami. The pesky Hurricanes defense kept him uncomfortable from the opening tip."

Kansas beats North Carolina 72-69 to win NCAA title (CNBC)

The Jayhawks brought their fourth NCAA title back to Allen Fieldhouse on Monday thanks to a second-half flurry that erased a 16-point deficit.

The Jayhawks brought their fourth NCAA title back to Allen Fieldhouse on Monday thanks to a second-half flurry that erased a 16-point deficit.Best. Comeback. Ever. Sounds pretty good next to Rock Chalk, Jayhawk. What looked like a lost cause turned into one of the sweetest wins ever for Kansas. The Jayhawks brought their fourth NCAA title back to Allen Fieldhouse on Monday thanks to a second-half flurry that erased a 16-point deficit and eventually overcame North Carolina 72-69 in an epic battle of power programs. It was the largest comeback in national championship history, surpassing the 1963 title game when Loyola overcame a 15-point deficit to beat Cincinnati at the buzzer, 60-58." The Tar Heels shot 11 for 40 in the second half. But it was Kansas that couldn't buy a basket late in the first half, as Carolina ran over and around the Jayhawks during a 16-0 run. A great season — but the banner will hang in Lawrence. And McCormack, thanks to his late-game heroics, will go down in KU lore, along with Mario Chalmers (2008), Danny Manning (and the miracles in 1988) and the rest of the Kansas greats. This title was three years in the making. This was their record 21st — and possibly most unlikely — trip to the Final Four. They made it to the final by beating Duke in a back-and-forth thriller and sending Blue Devils coach Mike Krzyzewski into retirement." I can't remember a time in my life where I should be disappointed," said rookie UNC coach Hubert Davis, who was trying to become the first person to lead a team to a title in his first full year as head coach. They won this one instead, and showed, once again, it's never good to count them out. While this wasn't quite the 47-15 beatdown they put on Miami over the final 20 minutes in the Elite Eight, it was still darn impressive given the circumstances.Ochai Agbaji, who was named the Final Four's most outstanding player, finished with 12 points and found breathing room after UNC's lockdown guard, Leaky Black, got his fourth foul 6 minutes into the second half." I thought I really got the angle that I wanted and then I just rolled my ankle," Bacot said. That put Brady Manek, not as good a defender, on McCormack, and the Kansas big man backed in Manek for the shot that put the Jayhawks ahead by three." Carolina was trying to join 1985 Villanova as only the second 8 seed to win March Madness.Instead, the Tar Heels (29-10) fell one win short and dropped to 6-6 all-time in title games. The Jayhawks outscored Carolina 47-29 in the second half." The Jayhawks brought their fourth NCAA title back to Allen Fieldhouse on Monday thanks to a second-half flurry that erased a 16-point deficit and eventually overcame North Carolina 72-69 in an epic battle of power programs. Christian Braun scored 10 of his 12 in the second half and transfer Remy Martin had 11 of his 14 over the final 20 minutes. It was the largest comeback in national championship history, surpassing the 1963 title game when Loyola overcame a 15-point deficit to beat Cincinnati at the buzzer, 60-58.North Carolina missed its final four shots, including Caleb Love's desperation 3 at the buzzer.

How the Kansas Jayhawks won the 2022 men's national ... (ESPN)

Kansas rallied to beat North Carolina in historic fashion on Monday night, and our team discussed the comeback and its meaning.

The Jayhawks were the lone No. 1 seed among the storied names in New Orleans, and did what it takes to write their name in the history books yet again. The Tar Heels ended Mike Krzyzewski's career in a national semifinal at the Superdome, adding an indelible chapter to that storied rivalry. It was an epic turnaround and a fitting end to one of the greatest NCAA tournaments. Regardless, Davis is going to need something from his newcomers, a pair of top-50 prospects in Seth Trimble and Jalen Washington. How big a role they have right off the bat will be determined by whether the current stars stay or go. The Tar Heels made multiple big plays of their own after falling behind late, only to run out of time -- and players -- in the closing minutes. In a way, Kansas won the game twice. The Tar Heels were tired of chasing Kansas players off screens and tussling on the block with David McCormack, whose sky hook over Brady Manek gave Kansas a critical three-point lead in the final seconds. As bad as the Jayhawks played after their 7-0 opening run, they used every weapon in their arsenal to spin the second half back in their favor. Jalen Wilson got hot after the break, and in general, the Jayhawks found the same gear they hit when they outscored the Hurricanes 45-17 in the second half of their Elite Eight game. With Kansas cutting down the nets to put a bow on the 2021-22 season, ESPN's team of Myron Medcalf, Jeff Borzello, John Gasaway and Joe Lunardi took a final look at this historic national championship game, including what went right for Kansas and what went wrong for North Carolina in the second half. That 10-minute stretch for Kansas at the start of the second half, when it outscored North Carolina 31-10, kept the Tar Heels chasing it until the end of the game. North Carolina's offensive firepower and defensive pressure had created that cushion going into the break, but Kansas' offensive efficiency helped it recover and take the lead in the second half.

Even the NCAA can't take away the feeling Kansas has after its ... (CBSSports.com)

There's a lot of uncertainty around the Kansas program, but what is for certain is KU deserves this national championship.

The Jayhawks made a 30-10 run to open the half. You can now buy Kansas championship shirts, hats, jerseys, hoodies, and much more to celebrate the historic win. Thankfully, the night will be known for a gutty comeback by the Jayhawks, the largest in championship game history. No matter what the NCAA does – and it could be significant – will soon be forgotten. The reason there is enforcement in the first place is because of a massive gambling scandal in the early 1950s. Kansas has yet to receive its hearing date with the Independent Accountability Resolution Panel. The talk going around is that the IARP may soon be disbanded having become a failed attempt at, well, accountability. The Wildcats are the bluest of bluebloods. He oversaw Self's new contract which, as mentioned, last week was a middle finger to the NCAA. He became the first KU coach to win two nattys. In a cruel twist, after an historic comeback against North Carolina to win the fourth NCAA Tournament championship in school history, Kansas may not even be able to defend its title. The NCAA president called them the "Kansas City Jayhawks" on the podium while presenting the national championship trophy before correcting himself. And in a sense, Kansas has already served a heck of a sentence.

Had North Carolina won, Kansas would have taken sole possession of the record with a seventh national title game defeat. After Marcus Paige hit one of the most improbable shots in NCAA Tournament history, Villanova’s Kris Jenkins followed it up with an even more iconic, buzzer-beating 3-pointer to dash the Tar Heels’ championship hopes. North Carolina has the third-most NCAA men’s basketball national championships with six.

After a whirlwind of a couple of weeks, it's time to take a look at how the NCAA Tournament reshaped the 2022 NBA Mock Draft board. Were players like Duke's ...

He has a quick and powerful burst when he attacks the basket and he also knocked down a pair of clutch 3s. Koloko has the agility and athleticism to hold his own on switches at the NBA level and he's still growing his offensive game. He's a capable passer off the bounce, making him a pick-and-roll threat, but he has a tendency to force it and turn the ball over at times. It was a disappointing freshman season for Baldwin. The No. 5-ranked player in his high school class elected to take his talents to mid-major Milwaukee to play for his father and didn't dominate at that level the way he was expected to. At 6-foot-9 with a reported 7-foot wingspan, Sochan can hold his own in the paint but he's also quick enough to guard on the perimeter. He finished at the rim and flashed a reliable floater, but also knew when to dish it off to his teammates when the defense collapsed on him. Mathurin had one of the best individual games of March Madness with his 30-point performance in an overtime win over TCU. He was the fastest and most explosive player on the floor, blowing by defenders to attack the basket. Griffin slides down a few spots following the NCAA Tournament. The freshman wing had a slow start to his freshman season but eventually found his groove as a scorer. He has proved to be a long and versatile defender who can comfortably guard four positions and his ability to score from all three levels of the floor, on or off the ball, makes him a plug-and-play player in the NBA. Holmgren silenced some of his critics, but there will always be doubters who don't see how he projects as a top prospect in the NBA. He was dominant on the glass as well, recording two double-doubles while coming up just one point and one rebound shy of a third against Memphis. Holmgren also flashed some confidence as a ball-handler and knocked down a couple of jumpers that made you see why he's in consideration for the top pick. His agility at his size made for a mismatch any time bigs tried to defend him on the perimeter.

How Kansas basketball staged a second-half comeback for the ages ... (The Topeka Capital-Journal)

How many points was Kansas trailing by at halftime? Fifteen. Did the Jayhawks come back and win? Yes, they did.

Harris didn’t score much in the second half, but he did have an acrobatic shot he hit and he was on the floor for a little more than half of a second half in which Kansas shot 57.6% from the field and 40% from behind the arc. It just means the world to them, and as far as six years of college I figure you stay around long enough and you’re bound to get one.” Lightfoot continued: “So, no, I was super blessed to be a part of this group. Self acknowledged himself, when asked about this title filling the void of not being able to make a run in 2020 due to the pandemic, how much different his team will look next season. While he made clear he means no disrespect, he added playing on the road against Kansas State isn’t the same as playing in front of a national audience with a championship on the line against North Carolina. That change will mean a different batch of personalities in Jayhawks uniforms next season. “I didn’t want to lose,” said Harris, speaking at a press conference with six teammates, five of whom he’s spent multiple seasons with. “And the way we got our tails handed to us by Kentucky, even though we hated it — but it showed us what a real team looks like. There at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, North Carolina had put itself in position to throttle Kansas and had all the momentum. Then came McCormack, delivering again with a bit less than 1:30 left, hitting a shot on a second-chance opportunity to give his team the lead for good. Now, like then, Agbaji said they just had to come out of halftime and execute. The start of the second half saw the Tar Heels turn the ball over on its first possession.

The college basketball regular season is a marathon. Teams play 30-35 games doing as well as they can with the hopes of getting a spot in the NCAA ...

Big Ten (9, 9-9, 3-5): There was a lot of complaining about the Big Ten getting nine teams in the field but only two to the Sweet 16. SEC (6, 5-6, 1-5): This was one of the strongest leagues in regular-season play, especially at the top, but it was a disaster once tournament play started. No. 10 seed Davidson nearly took down Michigan State in the opening round as well, but fell a point short. Still, the door was opened wide for No. 3 seed Purdue to get to the Final Four after the top two seeds in the East region were bounced before the Sweet 16, but the Boilermakers were undone by No. 15 seed Saint Peter's. Michigan was the lone bright spot for the conference, reaching the Sweet 16 as a No. 11 seed. This time, they lost in the Sweet 16 to Arkansas. Providence also lost to the Jayhawks, but in the Sweet 16. The only disappointment was No. 1 seed Baylor falling in the Round of 32 to eventual finalist North Carolina. Villanova made it to the Final Four before losing to Kansas in the semifinal on Saturday night. Iowa State was a team that some thought should not have been in the field at all, but the No. 11 seed Cyclones got to the Sweet 16. A No. 8 seed (North Carolina) played for the national championship. The number to the left of a team's name is trivial. The college basketball regular season is a marathon.

What is on the Horizon After the Kansas Jayhawks Win NCAA Title ... (WRUF)

A historic come from behind win by the Kansas Jayhawks in the NCAA Championship Game gives the program their fourth title in school history.

Even with the departures, the Jayhawks look to be in good shape. But, whether or not president Emmert will lay hash punishment on the Jayhawks program remains a question mark. Coming out of the half, the Jayhawks went on an 18-6 run to cut the Tar Heels’ lead. To some, a conclusion to the NCAA investigation is taking longer than usual. Down 15 points at the half, the Jayhawks stormed back to defeat the North Carolina Tar Heels, 72-69, Monday night. The Tar Heels led 40-25 at halftime and head coach Bill Self headed into the locker room looking to calm his team down.

Kansas-North Carolina was hoops at its best. Brace for what's next. (The Washington Post)

The Jayhawks' memorable March was compelling enough to distract from cloud of NCAA investigation.

Krzyzewski’s walk-off was bittersweet: a record-breaking 13th Final Four trip but a devastating loss to his team’s archrival just short of the finish line. From there, North Carolina won 13 of its next 15 games, including two massive victories over Duke, and Davis fell one win short of becoming the second coach in history to win the title in his first season. Kansas got the last two baskets of the season and earned the final and most important headlines of a tournament that was packed with thrills. From there, the teams seesawed to the finish. Michigan’s Steve Fisher took over for Bill Frieder at the start of the 1989 tournament and won six straight games and a championship. But the losers were 23 of 73 from the field, including a horrific 5 of 23 on three-point attempts. The winning team shot 29 of 66 from the field and was outrebounded, 55-35. The only team to get stripped of its championship is Rick Pitino’s 2013 Louisville squad. Those Jayhawks were banned from postseason play for violations committed under Larry Brown, who coached his team to the national title in 1988 and then left for the NBA. Roy Williams was left to deal with the sanctions in his first season. The Jayhawks were one of the subjects of the FBI’s investigation into corruption in college basketball that first became public in September 2017. But now, the end finally appears in sight, and it could impact the national champions. The NCAA’s follow-through on the findings of that investigation has been so slow that even NCAA President Mark Emmert admitted last week that the process had dragged on too long.
