SINGAPORE — At some point, the Covid-19 rules in Singapore must be relaxed further, with vaccination-differentiated safe management measures (VDS) stepped ...
“So while we have eased up the safe management measures and reopened our borders, the pandemic crisis is not over. “However (on) what endemicity means, it does not mean that we treat Covid-19 as if it is not there. If we decide to do away with VDS, then there is no need for SafeEntry. As of now VDS is still needed,” said Mr Ong. Then we'll be in a position to review this and make the right decision.” Mr Ong said this is the objective of the task force and that Singapore is making good progress. The Government’s multi-ministry Covid-19 task force will "therefore review its relevance and application to stand it down when it is no longer needed, while maintaining the capability to restart should we encounter a more dangerous variant of concern," said Mr Ong.

"The multi-ministry task force (on Covid-10) will therefore review its relevance and application, to stand it down when it is no longer needed, while maintaining the capability to restart it should we encounter a more dangerous variant of concern." "When we are sure that the situation in hospitals is stable and improving, we will review the VDS (vaccination-differentiated measures) and consider if we can reduce the number of settings or remove it entirely." Other measures such as safe distancing rules between tables in food and beverage settings will also be reviewed, Health Minister Ong Ye Kung told Parliament on Monday (April 4).
TraceTogether and other safety management measures will be reviewed, Health Minister Ong Ye Kung announced in Parliament on 4 Apr.
Singaporeans have greatly welcomed the relaxation of restrictions. On the other hand, the evaluation of VDS will depend on the stability of the situation in hospitals. Furthermore, the eased restrictions might lead to an uptick in cases, the burden of which will be borne by hospitals. Elaborating that Singapore is now past the stage of contact tracing every case, Mr Ong said the MTF would review its relevance and application to stand it down when it is no longer needed. Now, the Ministry of Health (MOH) is evaluating if more Covid-19 measures can be removed in time to come. For one, MOH no longer relies on the app for contact tracing of the general public.
However, SafeEntry is still needed for now to avoid increasing the workload of hospitals, he added.
As I explained, hospitals are not out of the woods...in the hospitals, it is still a crisis situation, its very busy. But is it therefore to protect public health outcomes? Ong added, "So make no mistake, individuals who chose not to be vaccinated, they impose a cost. "Is it equitable? However, as of right now, it is still needed. "Cases who self-tested positive and go on Protocol 2 do not upload their TraceTogether data," he said.
Measures that will be reviewed include the use of TraceTogether, SafeEntry and Vaccination-Differentiated SMMs (VDS). Muhd Zahin Ilmi ...
Mr Ong said: “When we are sure that the situation in hospitals is stable and improving, we (MTF) will review the VDS and consider if we can reduce the number of settings or remove it completely.” Therefore, Mr Ong believes that keeping the VDS is the “correct cause of action now” as it will help to lower the risk of non-vaccinated patients getting infected which will prevent adding workload to the health care workers. As of now, Mr Ong stated that Singapore has about “3.5 per cent of the adult population that are not fully vaccinated” and account for over one fifth of cases that require Intensive Care Unit (ICU) care or die.
