“I chose to remain silent about my departure from AEW and I’m going to keep my word on that. The son of late pro wrestling legend Dusty Rhodes, Rhodes started his in-ring career with WWE in 2006. He was with the company for 10 years until requesting his release in 2016. I get an opportunity at my dream, I get another chance at it. AEW, which is owned by Tony Khan, is WWE’s most significant competition since WCW went out of business in 2001. It led to the announcement that Rollins would be facing an opponent of WWE chairman Vince McMahon’s choosing.

But the No. 1 thing I am able to carry with me is that connection to the audience. It kind of feels like being in the military and having conquered something or having won this battle and being able to stand and keep your chin parallel with the floor and to be able to come in that fashion, a bit of a conquering hero. Then we were able to do what we were able to do with AEW and that’s something that I’m very proud of, but to be able to revisit the thing that I set out to do in the first place when I didn’t think I would get that chance is just heavy. To quote some of these individuals who courted me for this moment, “It’s not broke.” And this was a place that didn’t care for me. I think the elusive thing for any wrestler to find is the connection with the audience. I have nothing but respect for Matt [Jackson], Nick [Jackson] and Kenny [Omega]. I’m rooting for Tony Khan. His name is going to be in the history books as someone who helped to bankroll and support this entire alternative and revolution that AEW became but for me, it was just time to to move on. When I first got into wrestling, I was solely in the WWE system, and I had that dream of getting to the top. I chose to remain silent about my departure from AEW and I’m going to keep my word on that. I don’t want to put any hyperbole there, but it’s the biggest crowd in wrestling. “He went to Madison Square Garden, stood across from Superstar Billy Graham and he held it in his hands, the goal of mine, and it was taken away because that was the context of the match,” Rhodes said. It just seems like kind of a culmination of my whole career, but I don’t want to jinx it. He also revealed that there is a Dusty Rhodes documentary in the works as part of WWE’s partnership with A&E under the “Biography: WWE Legends” banner.

2022 WWE WrestleMania 38 Night 1 predictions, card, matches ... (CBSSports.com)

Everything you need to know ahead of the WWE WrestleMania Night 1 pay-per-view this Saturday.

Pick: Ronda Rousey wins the title -- Brookhouse Pick: Ronda Rousey wins the title Between E's injury, the sloppy inclusion of Butch, and the New Day reunion angle, all signs point to a fan-friendly victory for Kingston and Woods. Pick: The New Day wins -- Mahjouri It also wouldn't hurt Lynch to leave TV for a bit and retool her on-screen character because she's lost a lot of the magic that had made her such a force in the past. The only surprise here would be if Rollins' mystery opponent is not a returning Cody Rhodes. It will be, though, and with that in mind, there should be no mystery on the winner. There is no reality in the sprawling multiverse cruel enough to subject WWE fans to a Logan Paul victory at WrestleMania. Rey Mysterio is one of pro-wrestling and sports entertainment's most enduring good guys. Those two factors should be enough to say "The Mysterios get the win." It'd be easy to say the presence of Butch at ringside will tilt the scales the direction of Sheamus and Holland. But WrestleMania is generally about feel-good moments and putting the fan-favorite team over in an otherwise meaningless midcard match is a good play to continue that tradition. The Usos have been a fundamental component of SmackDown as record-setting SmackDown Tag Team champions alongside record-setting Universal champion Roman Reigns. Based on recent booking, the WWE seems to believe in Boogs (despite the team's presentation as somewhat of a comedy act). Nakamura is also coming off a recent Intercontinental title run and could be seen as a viable tag team champion. Nakamura and Boogs are an act WWE seems to like but it's hard to ignore that Nakamura had a recent 182-day run with the intercontinental championship and only defended the belt once between winning and losing the title. A feud with Corbin and Madcap Moss that has stretched on for months is, of course, a large step back from previous WrestleManias for McIntyre. Still, it's obvious WWE still sees him as a guy who belongs in the main event, so the Corbin rivalry has been a way to keep the Scot on television until it's time to be elevated again. The entire build to McIntyre vs.

Former WWE star Triple H opened the show with the traditional "Welcome ... to WrestleMania!" growling holler, but his surprise appearance to open the Night 2 was more poignant than that. Riddle returned from the outside, jumped up the turnbuckle and delivered a top-rope RKO on Ford, who bounced out of the ring after impact. With Riddle down after the maneuver, Chad Gable of Alpha Academy climbed the ropes to finish Riddle off only to get caught by Orton mid-flight for an RKO. Orton pinned Gable to end the match and keep the titles with RK-Bro. Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar will take center stage in the main event in a match to determine the undisputed WWE champion. Riddle and Orton pulled off a synchronized ropes-assisted DDT. The Profits pulled off a sky-high Blockbuster on Gable. But my favorite "wrestling logic" spot in the match was when Dawkins had Riddle pinned and Otis broke up the pin by body splashing onto Dawkins' back. chanting frenzy, as a wild no-DQ, no-countout match reached an incredible crescendo.

Roman Reigns. Brock Lesnar . For the third time in WrestleMania history, those two industry giants squared off in the main event of WrestleMania 38, ...

It was either going to be a cluster of massive proportions that embarrassed everyone involved or it was going to be a total blast; a spectacle from a consummate showman in Knoxville and one of WWE's most underrated performers in Zayn.It was the latter and both performers deserve props for crafting a match that kept the fans invested and entertained throughout. Kingston and Woods' tribute to Big E by wearing gear inspired by his WWE Championship win was very cool.Sheamus carrying Butch away from the action, preventing his involvement and a disqualification, helped put over the tenacity of the newcomer.Pat McAfee showed up and showed out Sunday night, as expected, and defeated Austin Theory in a match the Dallas fans were red-hot for.Raw athleticism from McAfee, and solid heel work from Theory, combined to make for a fun match that likely exceeded expectations. Sheamus and Ridge HollandThe match between New Day and the team of Sheamus and Ridge Holland was deemed expendable on Saturday so it was never really expected to be a memorable match. And it was not.The sprint of a match was more spots than anything, culminating with Holland pinning Xavier Woods following Northern Grit. Why WWE continuously feels the need to put Sheamus and Holland over is a question only it can answer but, with the tribute to Big E via his fear, this felt like the opportune time to give Kingston and Woods the nod. Stone Cold" Steve Austin made the save, delivered the ugliest Stone Cold Stunner of all time to McMahon and added another to McAfee before standing tall.McAfee joining commentary as he beat down Theory was a great moment and a callback to something The Rock used to do at the height of the Attitude Era.The former NFL punter leaping to the top rope and delivering a superplex was a fantastic spot.Theory selling the Stone Cold Stunner was right out of The Rock's playbook and it was superb.McAfee, still smarting after the stunner, was caught enjoying a beer in a fun spot. Given the lack of depth in the tag division, it is likely for the best that Montez Ford and Angelo Dawkins stay fan favorites. This was a fantastic way to kick off the show and set the bar for the rest of the broadcast.Triple H kicked off the show, making his way to the ring and leaving behind his boots, the symbolic sign that his in-ring career has come to an end. Theory's ego proved costly as he tried for A-Town Down, only for McAfee to roll him up and grab a handful of tights for the win. This was not an instance like earlier in the night, where Sami Zayn was absolutely instrumental in the overall success of his match with Johnny Knoxville. McAfee held his own, performed up to the moment and absolutely should be allowed back in the ring whenever the opportunity presents itself. The post-match, which saw an impromptu match between McAfee and Mr. McMahon, threatened to undo everything accomplished by the first match. McAfee exclaimed about Pontius.Wee-Man's appearance popped the crowd and his bodyslam of Zayn was a highlight.Sasha Banks and Naomi, Natalya and Shayna Baszler, and Liv Morgan and Rhea Ripley challenged Queen Zelina and Carmella for the Women's Tag Team Championship in a Fatal 4-Way Match.A spotty match with almost too much going on for its own good saw Banks and Naomi use tandem offense to score the pinfall on Carmella and the titles. The effort was there and all eight women were highlighted well, but with so many competitors looking to get their stuff in, the match consisted more of spots and flashy sequences than any easily trackable narrative. One of the two babyface teams had to win here and, given the fact that Banks had competed at six WrestleManias without a win, this was as good a time as any to right that wrong. A lengthy contest that started slow but built to its false finishes and high spots, it saw Edge score the win after a momentary distraction from Damian Priest. The former United States champion popped up at ringside, momentary preventing Styles from delivering the Phenomenal Forearm. Edge capitalized, delivering a spear that earned the Hall of Famer the win.Was the contest the Match of the Year candidate that many expected it to be? With two world titles and bragging rights on the line, the most heated rivalry in the company came to a head in the show-closing contest of Sunday's action at AT&T Stadium in Dallas.Who emerged with the gold and what went down on the rest of the card when Superstars settled grudges and tag titles were decided?Find out now with this recap of Night 2 of The Showcase of the Immortals. Winner Takes All match for WWE and Universal Championships: Brock Lesnar vs. He succeeded, delivering a massive verticle suplex to the former tag team champion and following with two spears for the pinfall victory. The match was mercifully short and Omos was not asked to do too much. Sheamus and Ridge Holland (with Butch)The night's opening match saw RK-Bro's Randy Orton and Riddle successfully retain their Raw Tag Team Championship in a Triple Threat Match over The Street Profits and Alpha Academy.A high-energy three-way match that featured one member from each team in the ring at the same time, it was the perfect option to kick off the show. The crowd was into it, the competitors were amped up and the Orton hot tag sparked a phenomenal finishing sequence that concluded with The Viper catching Chad Gable with an RKO mid-flight for the win.The Profits showed respect to the victors post-match, suggesting the teased heel turn we saw the last few weeks will not move forward. The WWE and Universal Championships were on the line in a Winner Takes All match that would shape the future of Raw and SmackDown for the foreseeable future.

WWE WrestleMania 38 Sunday Results: Reigns wins, Full Recap ... (CNET)

Roman Reigns decisively defeats Brock Lesnar, and Vince McMahon wrestles an impromptu match.

Grabbing a microphone, he said he wanted to thank the crowd and welcomed them to WrestleMania. From there it was all teams hitting huge tandem offense on each other, including a crazy Blockbuster from the Street Profits. Orton tried to RKO Dawkins, but Dawkins pushed him off into the ropes and then planted Orton with a spinebuster. Austin hit a huge Stunner on Austin Theory, and it was just McMahon and Austin in the ring. Edge's entrance was awesome, rising to the stage in a throne with flames engulfing the background. The New Day hit a nice flurry of offense on Ridge Holland, then Xavier blasted Sheamus to the outside. Theory tried to do a Superplex, but in an impressive athletic display McAfee backflipped off the top rope and landed on his feet. McMahon then hit a few weak clotheslines on McMahon and threw him into the turnbuckle. After Theory got some heat on McAfee, McAfee bumped Theory to the outside, strapped on the announcer's headphones and did some commentating as he beat Theory about. It's hard to say this wasn't a disappointment, literally billed as the biggest WrestleMania match of all time but it was far from even being the best match between Reigns and Lesnar. Now that Reigns has beaten Lesnar clean in the middle of the ring, the question is what's next? With the ref down, Reigns hit Lesnar with a low blow and then got the title from Heyman and smashed Lesnar with it, a callback to their finish at Crown Jewel last year. Reigns Speared Lesnar from the back -- which actually looked like a botch -- then hit him with another Spear, but Lesnar countered it into a Kimura Lock. Reigns did a great job selling it. The big surprise from the show was an impromptu wrestling match pitting Vince McMahon against Pat McAfee. It was grim, but lead to a great segment involving Stone Cold Steve Austin doing his thing.

The John Report: WWE WrestleMania 38 Review – Sunday (Night 2 ... (TJR Wrestling)

It's WrestleMania 38 night two featuring Universal Champion Roman Reigns vs. WWE Champion Brock Lesnar, AJ Styles vs. Edge and a lot more!

The finish was a bit sudden, so maybe Reigns was hurting in his left shoulder and thought it was time to end it. Pat went for a punt, Theory move and did a shot to the knees followed by a forearm to the head. Reigns ran the ropes three times leading to a Spear to the back, but they landed by the ropes, so Lesnar got his hands on the ropes to stop the count. The louds went out, the gong hit and The Undertaker appeared on the stage much to the delight of the fans in attendance. Edge and Styles were on the apron, Styles punched Edge off the top to the apron. Edge with running knees to the ribs along with a kick to the ribs. Styles with a backfist, Edge with a kick and Styles hit a Pele Kick to stun Edge. Styles wanted the Calf Crusher submission, Edge slapped on the Lebell Lock submission and Styles got out of it Edge with a sitout neckbreaker for two. Dawkins with a spinbuster on Orton and Dawkins hit a somersault dive over the top on Otis. Orton was all alone in the ring, Ford went up and Riddle jumped up to the top with an RKO! A jumping RKO off the top rope! Otis with a body slam on Riddle. Gable tagged in with a Northern Lights Suplex on Riddle. Gable wrenched on the knee of Riddle, Ford got back in the ring and hit a dropkick on Gable to break that up. The fans loved Wee Man! The little man Wee Man kicked Zayn in the shin and Wee Man gave Zayn a body slam! Dawkins tagged in with a leap over Gable, a back elbow, suplex on Riddle and an Exploder Suplex on Gable. Dawkins with a spinning neckbreaker on Riddle, but Otis tagged in to break up the pin with a splash. Otis with a spinning back elbow on Dawkins. Otis had Ford on the shoulders and Gable jumped off the top with a bulldog for a two count.

2022 WWE WrestleMania 38 results, Night 2 grades: Roman Reigns ... (CBSSports.com)

Reigns bested Brock Lesnar in the main event on Sunday night for his first win over the now former champion at WrestleMania.

Reigns hit Lesnar with a low blow and Heyman gave him the universal championship, which Reigns used to hit Lesnar and score a two count. McAfee hit one of his trademark spots, landing on his feet on a backflip off the top rope before leaping back to the top rope and hitting Theory with a superplex. Lesnar went for another F-5 only for Reigns to slide out, shoving Lesnar into the ropes and allowing Reigns to hit one final spear for the finish. The finish was pretty sudden and the match was a bit lacking in the overall drama compared to previous Reigns and Lesnar contests. After the match, McAfee taunted McMahon, leading McMahon to take off his jacket and his shirt, striping to a tanktop and bringing a referee to the ring. Lashley then hit a spear to the back and another spear from the front to score the pin. Austin Theory: McAfee got off to a hot start with spinning elbows and ranas to keep Theory on the defensive. Edge: Edge took a smug approach to the start of the match, disrespecting Styles before Styles hit a dropkick and several arm drags to get off to a hot start. Zayn used a baking sheet and a crutch to hit Knoxville across the back before pulling out a table from under the ring. Riddle took out Ford with a springboard RKO as Ford was on the top rope and Orton hit Gable with an RKO of his own as Gable came off the top rope, scoring the win. Styles drove Edge into the ring apron with a superplex, nearly resulting in a double count out but Styles hit a springboard 450 when Edge got back in the ring, resulting in a near fall. In the main event, WWE champion Brock Lesnar clashed with Roman Reigns in a bout to unify WWE's top two championships.

Stale Roman Reigns-Brock Lesnar Match Gives WWE Wrestlemania ... (Bleacher Report)

In a strange twist, when fans look back on WrestleMania 38, they will remember much about it before the main event ever comes to mind...

Maybe some of this is the fault of the otherwise amazing WrestleMania 38 card over both nights for setting the expectation that the main event would keep pace or provide something different. Whatever the reason, it also puts a damper on what's to come. It's pretty unfortunate that WWE derailed both men's divisions and major landmarks like the Royal Rumble and Elimination Chamber to set this up, only for the 'Mania main event to just slip past the 12-minute mark while feeling downright strange. It fell flat in a lot of ways before the weird finish. It was a subtle, genius moment the referee didn't see that swung the match. It is admittedly tough to tell the difference between Reigns' elite-level selling and something serious, of course.
