After Omicron, Delta recombinants variant, World Health Organisation (WHO) has now warned of the 2nd COVID mutant strain XE (hybrid strain of 2 Omicron ...
“Early-day estimates indicate a community growth rate advantage of ~10% as compared to BA.2, however this finding requires further confirmation." XE is a large UK BA.1 x BA.2 lineage. XF is a UK Delta x BA.1 lineage. XD is the new name for the French Delta x BA.1 lineage. It has the Spike and structural proteins from BA.1 but the 5' part of its genome from Delta. It comprises several tens of sequences currently. A UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) study recently revealed that currently as many are 3 hybrid COVID variants are circulating.
A new mutant of Covid-19 called 'XE' appears to be about ten per cent more transmissible than the BA.2 sub-variant of Omicron, as per the WHO.
As the world battles the Omicron variant, the World Health Organisation(WHO) has informed about the Covid hybrid Omicron XE which is a recombinant strain.
The UK report said XE has shown "community transmission" in England however currently it is less than 1 per cent of total sequenced cases. It is a mutant hybrid of the two virus versions - Omicron variant BA.1 and BA.2. The XE and XF recombinant has been found in England and XD has been found in France. The UK agency said: "XE is a BA.1 and BA.2 recombinant and has three mutations that are not present in all BA.1 or BA.2 sequences." According to UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA), there are two combinations of Delta and BA.1 - XD and XF. It is currently present in Europe. XF has a "small cluster in the UK", it said but added that it hasn't been detected since February 15. In a report, the WHO said: "The XE recombinant was first detected in the United Kingdom on January 19 and over 600 sequences have been reported and confirmed since."
Researchers also identify Omicron XD variant, a hybrid of Delta and Omicron BA.1.
It has only been found in Britain to date but the UK Health Security has suggested it could be nearly 10 per cent more transmissible than its parents. XF is a combination of Delta and BA.1 and has only been found in Britain. Omicron XE is a combination of Omicron BA.1 and BA.2 but with three separate and distinct mutations. Most concern is centred round the XD variant, which is a recombinant sublineage of Delta and Omicron BA.1. Several countries have also detected the Omicron XD and XF hybrid variants, recombinants of Delta and Omicron. The UK Health Security Agency is monitoring three hybrid variants: XD, XE and XF.
Hundreds of cases of 'XE' have been detected in England but experts still investigating level of risk.
A record number of people in the UK had Covid in the past week, according to official figures. The government body said that, as of 22 March, 637 cases of XE had been detected in England, only a small fraction of the tens of thousands of Covid cases being reported every day since restrictions were lifted. A new Covid variant has been found in the UK but experts say it’s too soon to know if it is more transmissible than previous strains.
The XE variant is said to be more transmissible than BA.2, which is more transmissible than Omicron.
Additionally, the Omicron wave, which includes the BA.2 variant, has also been receding on a global scale. This is because while BA.2 is more transmissible and now dominant globally, a new wave of infections of the the BA.2 variant has yet to be reported. While WHO's findings on the XE Covid-19 variant were more recent, the UK similarly reported that the XE Covid-19 variant was likely to be more transmissible than Omicron BA.2. Using the most recent data up to Mar. 16, UK's Health Services Agency's (HSA) report on Mar. 25 stated that the XE Covid-19 variant has a weekly growth rate 9.8 per cent above that of BA.2. The XE Covid-19 variant is possibly more transmissible than BA.2, according to WHO's most recent report on Mar. 29, where more preliminary details are now known about the new "variant of concern". WHO first reported the XE Covid-19 variant on Mar. 22, where it stated that the variant is a recombination of the Omicron BA.1 and BA.2 variant.
The World Health Organisation (WHO) warned of a new COVID-19 mutant of the Omicron variant which could be most transmissible.
New Delhi: The World Health Organisation (WHO) warned of a new COVID-19 mutant of the Omicron variant which could be most transmissible. WHO eased back on its earlier position in January by saying boosters were recommended once countries had adequate supplies and after protecting their most vulnerable. The new COVID mutant ‘XE’ is a hybrid strain of two Omicron subvariants.
New COVID-19 mutant called 'XE' appears to be around 10 per cent more transmissible than the BA.2 sub-variant of Omicron, according to the World Health ...
This variant refers to the hybrid of Delta x BA.1 lineage of Omicron. It has been detected in France, Denmark and Belgium, as per reports. Currently, the BA.2 sub-variant of Omicron is spreading to different areas across the globe. The new mutant XE was first detected in the United Kingdom n (UK) on January 19. This is significant as up till now the BA.2 sub-variant of Omicron was considered to be the most contagious strain of the novel coronavirus. The new mutant variant XE is a hybrid of two versions of Omicron. These are the BA.1 and BA.2. However, right now XE only accounts for a small number of COVID-19 cases across the planet. A new mutant of Covid-19 called 'XE' appears to be about ten per cent more transmissible than the BA.2 sub-variant of Omicron, as per the WHO.

Meanwhile, the BA.2 sub-variant of Omicron is spreading rapidly across the globe. US and China also reported a surge in Covid cases driven by the BA.2 variant. The new mutant, called XE, may be more transmissible than any strain of COVID-19, the health body said.

The international public health body has raised concern over the XE mutant variant of the contagious Omicron virus. Your subscription is confirmed for news related to biggest developments in health, medicine and wellbeing. It is at present the most dominant strain of the virus, responsible for 86 per cent of all the recent cases of COVID-19. According to the research, this variant is 10 times more transmissible than BA.2 subvariant or Stealth Omicron, which was termed as the variant of concern due to its high transmissibility rate. Within two months it became the dominating variant, leading to a spike in the cases across the globe in mid-January. It was two to four times more transmissible than Delta and was responsible for the third wave of coronavirus in India. After this, a BA.2 sub-variant of Omicron emerged, which was found to be even more contagious than the parent variant. Right when the world thought it was enough of Covid and it's time to move on, the deadly virus may have something else in store for humans. Right when the world thought it was enough of Covid and it's time to move on, the deadly virus may have something else in store for humans. Earlier, the UN health agency had issued warnings against Omicron, Delta recombinant virus, saying with both Omicron and Delta circulating in a massive scale, this was highly expected. A UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) study recently revealed that currently as many are 3 hybrid COVID variants are circulating. So what do we know about this new Covid variant and how infectious is it? As per the WHO (World Health Organisation), a Covid variant of mutation called XE has been found in the UK, which the global health body suggests could be more transmissible than any other Covid strain so far.

"As with other kinds of variant, most will die off relatively quickly." "Recombinant variants are not an unusual occurrence, particularly when there are several variants in circulation, and several have been identified over the course of the pandemic to date," Hopkins stated. Recombinant variants themselves, however, are not out of the ordinary, according to health officials.

The WHO warned on Tuesday that XE could be the most transmissible strain of the new coronavirus although its severity is still being investigated. In a post on its Facebook page, the centre said the XE recombinant was found through genomic sequencing of a swab sample taken from a Thai patient. Thailand on Saturday reported its first case of Omicron XE, a combination of two previous versions of the Omicron variant, shortly after the World Health Organisation (WHO) warned about the new hybrid.
