Users can add a pixel to the collaborative artwork, the brainchild of Wordle creator Josh Wardle.

From Robin inspiring our real-time chat product to Circle of Trust inspiring real-time comment and upvote counts, April Fools’ Day provides Reddit a period to test infrastructure at a grand scale and try things that are new and off the wall. The original version was created by a team including Josh Wardle, who would go on to found the even more viral Wordle online game. The board, which was first launched in 2017, is a large grid where one million redditors placed approximately 16 million tiles on a blank communal canvas.

To put it in simpler terms, it was a collaborative project and social experiment hosted by Reddit on April 1, 2017. Reddit raised $50 million in a funding round led by Sam Altman and investors like March Andreessen, Ron Conway, Snoop Dogg and Jared Leto. The company was valued at $500 million then. The international community website brought back its 2017 r/Place once again. First of all, Reddit wishes you a Happy April Fools Day! But wait, it’s no prank. Well, r/Place is back!

The Reddit app allows you to change its app icon. More specifically, the Reddit app icon recently turned pixelated. Following the latest update to the official Reddit app, many users have noticed that the app icon is now pixelated — causing them to wonder what in the world is going on. However, within the last couple of days, you may have seen that the Reddit app automatically changed icons on its own.

This must be the r/Place — Fans of a popular rhythm game called “osu!” coordinated very well to quickly deploy a circular logo.

The artwork became live at midnight on April 2. To participate in the artwork, Reddit users will have to click (or tap, depending on the device they are on) on the new widget icon with the letter “P” at the top of the home feed, or open their community drawer in their app and tap on it. “Some have visited a canvas before.
