Liverpool 'monitor' £63m striker as Jude Bellingham and Erling ... (Liverpool Echo)

Borussia Dortmund midfielder Jude Bellingham has been tipped to move to the Premier League in the near future as Wolves star Ruben Neves is linked with ...

It is well known that Liverpool are looking to strengthen in the middle of the park after the departure of Gini Wijnaldum last summer to PSG. Could Neves be the player to replace the Dutchman? According to the report, RB Leipzig will listen to offers for Christopher Nkunku in excess of £63 million this summer after their star man has attracted plenty of interest this season. Dortmund are looking likely to sell star man Erling Haaland this summer with his release clause becoming active and will want to keep hold of another prized asset in Bellingham. “He’ll probably stay at Dortmund for another year, but I think a team like a Liverpool will come and get him sooner rather than later," said Morrison. Wolverhampton Wanderers manager Bruno Lage has admitted a 'big club' could attempt to prise Ruben Neves away this summer. Jurgen Klopp has almost a full squad to choose from, with just Naby Keita and Trent Alexander-Arnold with fitness issues and the German manager will be hoping his side are ready to hit the kind of form they were in before the March international break.

Thiago set for Champions League change after situation no-one ... (Liverpool Echo)

Thiago Alcantara has been a shining light for Liverpool this term and his Champions League situation looks very different 12 months on.

Liverpool have lost just once - and that was a 1-0 defeat at home to Inter Milan in the Champions League round of 16 second leg last month that made no difference to progress in the competition. And it's telling that of the eight Premier League games Liverpool have failed to win this season, the Spaniard was absent for six of them. And Thiago is clearly in the mood to help Liverpool this week edge nearer a potential reunion with his former colleagues. But as, 12 months on, Liverpool prepare once again for a last-eight tie in Europe's premier cup competition, it would be a major surprise if Thiago is not among the first names on Jurgen Klopp's teamsheet for Tuesday's first leg against Benfica in Portugal. Long banished have been any doubts over whether the former Barcelona graduate would be able to perform in a Klopp midfield, his performances in the closing weeks of last season ensuring Liverpool were able to return to the Champions League with an impressive third-placed Premier League finish. And, in Saturday's hard-earned victory over Watford, Thiago provided a latest showcase of why he is, when available, such an important cog of the engine room with the Reds continuing to chase down an unprecedented quadruple. A Champions League quarter-final first leg at Real Madrid should have been the ideal stage for the Spaniard to strut his stuff in his native country against familiar opposition.

A Tuesday to Sunday turnaround ahead of the Premier League game should have got the worst effects of the Suárez antics out of Man City’s system, but playing the second leg away at Atlético on the Wednesday night ahead of a Saturday meeting in the FA Cup could be hugely testing. In a title race of such fine margins, perhaps the effects of the trip to Portugal will have a residual impact, but with more than four full days to recover it should not prove decisive. If all goes well, Liverpool may even be able to field a second string side in their own second leg, which will be played at Anfield: the difference is stark. Ninety minutes of handling Suárez, Simeone and all the other wily old foxes, even at the Etihad, is worth about six flights to Lisbon. It is still a colossal ask for Liverpool to come through this fortnight unscathed. Nonetheless, if the Uruguayan is locked into one of his goalscoring veins of form, it is very bad news for Manchester City. Now 35, he is also no longer a certainty to start, but he will relish any chance he gets to make a nuisance of himself. However, the striker will surely have been grateful for the run-out, a great confidence-booster ahead of his biggest game of the campaign. READ MORE: Mohamed Salah may finally have realised what Liverpool always knew as contract solution 'near' To make matters worse for Man City, their opponents are entering the tie in extremely good form, in stark contrast to Benfica. Unbeaten in eight and on a six-game winning streak, they warmed up for the Champions League tie with a 4-1 drubbing of Alavés. Suárez and João Félix both helped themselves to braces. Félix has not even been a guaranteed starter in the league this season, with Simeone typically preferring to save the talented youngster for the big Champions League nights. It was immediately clear that the Champions League draw had been kind to Liverpool. It would be dangerous to write off Benfica out of hand, but on paper they are the weakest side left in the competition. Sandwiched between that first game are the two legs of the Champions League quarter-final against Benfica. It doesn’t get much more high-stakes, but Jürgen Klopp could hold a critical four-game advantage — and Luis Suárez is partly to thank.
