Everton win an amazing (and terrible) game of football - The Warm-Up (Eurosport.com)

What Everton's win over Newcastle lacked in quality, it made up for in sheer unbridled energy, and the Toffees might just have saved their season. In the Europa League, Leicester and West Ham go marching on. And we have questions about Gareth Southgate's ...

A little more nous from Newcastle in the first half, a little more luck in the second, and all that energy could have come out as booing instead of delirious screaming. Obviously we can't say for certain that this was all down to the return of Wesley Fofana, but we're going to assume so until somebody proves otherwise. And so the Warm-Up would like to formally thank West Ham and Sevilla for taking their game to extra-time, meaning we actually got to watch some of it after Everton-Newcastle ran long. It becomes a rolling stream of events, all related by the competition but all taking place in different locations, with different people wearing different coloured shirts. But they've kept the crowd, and they've stopped the slide, and they've finally conjured something โ€” a feeling, an energy, a have-that-the-lot-of-you triumph โ€” for Frank Lampard to work with. Was this the most important game of the season? 10 years ago that tackle would have earned him a booking; 20 years ago, the referee would have given him a firm handshake and a word of congratulation. Very possibly, at least at this end of the table. This one crackled with nervous energy, as the crowd roared and seethed and howled and the referee whistled and whistled and whistled. Goodison Park wound itself up and wound itself up further and then, in the one thousandth minute of injury time, Alex Iwobi and Dominic Calvert-Lewin remembered that they were very good footballers and produced three perfect seconds of football, and the place went off like a jubilant volcano. Do you like to see well-organised teams tussling with one another, do you like to see the very best players playing at the top of their ability, do you like to see thrilling attacking, stout defending, brain and body working as one? Sometimes, a game that remains goalless for an hour or so can be described as "one for the purists". This was one for nobody at all.

"My generation is being shafted - we face a cost of living crisis, a housing crisis, a fuel crisis and an unlivable planet - but we have a choice. It's time to act like it's an emergency. It was a big delay.

Everton are looking to build on their morale-boosting victory over Newcastle United when they travel to face Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.

"The test will be standing up emotionally and showing your character, but also on a football level we need to be better away from home. He said: "It will be the flip, Palace have got really strong support. Everton fed off the atmosphere at a raucous Goodison Park on Thursday evening to secure their latest victory. Away from the Premier League, though, there is the matter of an FA Cup quarter final to deal with this weekend. You can't forget Andre, he hasn't played so many minutes lately but he's a talented player for us," the boss added. The Blues are on a high after beating Newcastle 1-0 at Goodison Park in midweek, with Alex Iwobi's 99th-minute goal proving the difference.

When the referee sees clearly and it's a change of decision, it has to be clear and obvious that that's a red card. Is it a strong yellow? It was in the celebrations for the goal. 'Is it a yellow? I spoke to the players in the week and a lot of them stood up tonight.' This was one where the referee sees.

They want to see what they feel and there's been a lot of negativity around the players, the fans and all this stuff this week. There were some tactical things that were hard for us to deal with and, at half-time, I just wanted to be so positive with the team and use the atmosphere and use the side of the game that this club needs to have. It was a night where even Kieran Trippier admitted the atmosphere was something he 'never experienced in his career' while Ryan Fraser hailed the fans for 'getting us through that' under the lights.

Police Remove Protester Who Tied Neck To Everton Goal... After Another Pitch Invader Punches Him (unknown)
