Liverpool have five generational talents who deserve more respect ... (Liverpool.com)

Liverpool kept the pressure on Man City with a 2-0 win against Arsenal. Jürgen Klopp knows that five members of his elite squad played an underrated role.

They returned at the beginning of this season and since have hardly missed a step. A quartet that possesses everything and has few chinks in the armour. They kept 15 clean sheets in 2019/20, and the possibility is still there for Liverpool to extend the run with nine games remaining of this season. Liverpool, and Van Dijk especially, are creating such an aura around the defence that it’s simply putting fear into opposing players by mere presence. While Liverpool’s attacking prowess deservedly gets most of the attention from pundits and fans, Virgil van Dijk, Joël Matip and co. Only once in the Klopp era have Liverpool been so defensively solid.

Jordan Henderson describes Liverpool's performance against ... (Rousing the Kop)

The Liverpool captain used a single word to describe his team's performance after the 2-0 win over Arsenal yesterday.

The Brazilian pounced on a ball across the box from Andy Robertson to kill the game. Although Forest are a difficult proposition – former Liverpool youth coach Steve Cooper is doing a great job there – it represents a real opportunity for Liverpool to secure a second trip to Wembley this season. Robbo posted a message of congratulations to Firmino after the game. Ahead in the game and still able to bring on the country’s top scorer for the final half hour or so. Last night’s win was one of those games where it means more than simply three points. Much has been made of Jurgen Klopp’s newfound squad depth at Liverpool, particularly the strength in attack.

Liverpool's win at Arsenal gives them the momentum to eclipse Manchester City in Premier League chase (unknown)

Nine straight wins the Premier League have given Liverpool the needed momentum to overtake Manchester City. As for Arsenal, steps are still needed.

There is no doubt that Arsenal are miles behind Liverpool, but their race is all about fourth spot and qualifying for the Champions League. If that happens, they then have a platform upon which to build towards competing with Liverpool and City in the years ahead. Liverpool look unstoppable, and they could yet do the quadruple, and City know that too. The reality of this Arsenal team is that it now has an identity and a clear pathway in front of it. The goal was made by Andy Robertson, who dispossessed Bukayo Saka on the left before breaking the touchline and pulling back for Firmino to flick past Ramsdale. At 2-0, it was game over -- Liverpool were firmly in control and Arsenal's recent revival was over. Facing Mikel Arteta's resurgent team at the Emirates was undoubtedly a tougher challenge for Klopp's players, with the Gunners climbing into fourth on the back of five straight league wins and unbeaten run in the Premier League stretching back to Jan 1. Manchester City don't have it and that's why, after Liverpool's 2-0 victory at Arsenal on Wednesday, Pep Guardiola's Premier League champions will be worrying that they may be about to finish second in what had seemed, not too long ago, like a one-horse race.

Unfortunately, the result did not agree with the performance. "I want to win every football game but I am very proud of the boys and the performance and the connection with the fans, they stayed with the players until the end.
